So i was digging though the basement at work and came across this beauty

one if the original right hand 9.0sl 8-speed triggers still in the box

now it just so happens that there is an older, very tight ultegra 8-speed cassette in the basement as well thats sparkly new, so im wondering what the word was on these shifters was as it would be a killer setup if they work well

unfortunately they won't work together, as the actuation ratio of shimano is 2:1 and sram is 1;1

Your face.
The cassette will work fine, but you need a 9.0 deraileur (I got one if you need it, randomly.)

That said, not very good stuff compared to SHImano's offerings at the time. CLunky, kinda clumsy shifting.

it would work fine with any of the x9/x7/xo rear mechs. It would be a cool setup because no one else would have it but i don't think those shifters were actually that good.

make the switch. Give it a shot. I run XTR 8spd pod with saint810 derailleur and XTR 11-30 cassette. Great stuff.

I would imagine the shifter wouldn't be too bad, it was their top of the line after all.
