anyone have good advice for a surge suppressor? i have a basic strip model but my cable box doesn't go into it, and perhaps that was a reason why my A/V receiver amp partially died. :dead:

Not too inexpensive, becaue alot of those cheap ones with cable or phone connections will degrade your performance.

Make sure it a UL listed TVSS and 330V clamping rated.

Anything else is probably garbage cause its not tested/confirmed by UL.

UL lists/test TVSS "Transient Voltage Surge Suppressor" devices and tests to as low as 330V clamping/suppressed voltage rating. Although lower (not higher) voltage ratings are better, UL only tests to 330V, so 330V is what you want to look for.

UL calls this "UL TVSS 1449"

APC, Belkin, Tripplite are decent brands.

Go to their sites for info and check out their products.

Then you can Pricegrabber.com for the price.

If you want the latest trendy consumer whore, Apple-like marketing product, you can also check out the new powersquid TVSS, I am not sure if they are available yet (still undergoing UL testing):
