So I used a set of Eggbeaters this weekend. Overall, I liked them very much. It took a while to get used to clipping in, but it was easy once I got the hang of it. I like the tight feeling when you're locked in. There is little float, unlike the SPD's I have been using. The Eggbeaters also took a couple of very hard licks on rocks, and survived just fine.
The only beef I have is that they are little tougher to clip out of than the SPD's (that's actually good and bad). My foot never unclipped while riding, something that does happen to me on occasion when using SPD's. However, I fell a couple of times this weekend, and when I did, my shoe stayed locked into the pedal. When I was using SPD's, my foot always unclipped when I was going down, and because of that I'd usually be able to fall nice and easy. Staying locked into the Eggbeater, the falls were a little more awkward. I probably just need to get a little more used to the Eggbeaters.
Overall, they are excellent pedals and I think I'll keep using them.
