I think the answer is "it depends". I ran a 2.3 dual ply high roller just fine on my Stan's rim, but it would not hold air tubeless on my Spank rims.

I've never had any trouble running them tubeless on Stans or Hope rims.

I run dhr minions (non tr) on my e13 wheels without a problem. The sidewalls seem to 'bleed' more fluid, but no real issues with holding air for a day of riding.

Most 2-ply non tubeless Maxxis tyrese i've used xzibit no issues seating, holding air and or leaking, though one or two had a little trouble at first, after one ride, no problems. MAXXIS just added Tubeless Ready to the dual-ply lineup (but not in 26") so they are addressing that issue, but they aren't available yet. Smok'em if ya got 'em and look to replace them, when they wear out, with the tubeless version.
