The el jefe was extremely similar to the avy, but I doubt they are swappable. You may have to take the shock to a moto shop and see if they can rebuild it or replace parts. Otherwise, time to replace it. You can always call craig too, he may be able to help you out, for a price.
You are in luck. The el jefe uses standard mx parts. I used to have an el jefe and if I recall correctly they use showa parts. The same as what comes stock on either cr80 or xr 50 honda dirt bikes. I picked up a piston and seal kit for about 40 bucks a fews years back. It is one or they other so I think if you give the parts person the shaft size they should be able to figure out which one.
If you're mechanically inclined it is pretty easy to do yourself. However don't get tempted to mess with the shim stack. This is an art and unless you have the time and patients to learn it can be painful... trust me. Good Luck
