I am looking at the Chameleon hardtail frame. I ride both XC and technical/northshore trails. I'm not hard on equipment, thanks to trials teaching me finesse.

If anyone on this board rides this frame or knows someone that does, can they tell me how happy they are with the frame? Upsides and downsides? Maybe approx weight? Also, is the disc mount pretty strong? Disc mounts always worry me, they are always so flimsy.

Thanks for any light you guys can shed on it for me!

The Chameleon is a kickass frame and the disc adaptor is rock solid.

I ride my Chameleon as a trail bike, which means it sees it all, XC type stuff, jumps, drops everything. I've even spent a couple days downhilling on it. :D

Thanks for the reply! I was already quite certain the responses would be as positive as yours, just want to see myself :D

That pic is really cool.. but in the name of bike porn, any shots of it by itself? :) Maybe one showing this disc tab! I believe you don't worry, I just couldn't see it on Cruz's website

The disc mount "looks" a little gimpy because its upside down to most others but it is solid. I know quite a few Chameleon riders and none have had any issues with Hayes discs. But Avids and maybe others have an odd cable run and I think you need to file the brake a bit to fit too.

I ran mine with V's so I don't know much about the disk, but besides looking a little funky, I think its completely solid, and not that hard to setup with hydros. It's also the simplest horizontal drops with disk setup I've seen.

The bike itself is fantastic. Mine was a '00, so it was a touch lighter than the new ones but couldn't handle a dual crown fork. Geometry and feel hasn't changed though, and that Chameleon was hands down the best bike I've ever been on. Unbelievably natural. Quick but stable. I had a 4" Z1 on it, and it was grrrrrrreat. Then it got stolen. I have a PitBoss now that I like, but not as much despite a retail about double the SC.

I'd say get one. You won't be disappointed.

btw, mine is in the classifieds now. Not because I don't like it, but I need a new fork for my Bullit, like pronto!

There is also a closeup of the disc mount in there for ya LostBoyScout.

thanks for the pic! that is quite a cool setup for it! i never realized the wheel attached a la BMX style before... never ran that setup, is it a bitch taking the rear wheel off? no matter, but curious :)

i would definitely consider it if a) it was a M and b) if i had money this year.... yea i plan awful far ahead, i wont be getting a new frame until at least november or december. might wait till spring.

Nah, it's not hard removing the rear wheel.

These things are beefy, you'll dig it if you get one, I just wish I had the $$ to keep it and finish building it back up. I robbed some of the parts for my Bullit when I got it, and became slightly obsessed with FS again. :D
