My buddy has a nice recumbent because of back problems. He locked it outside the g/f's, and he comes out and finds the frame where he locked it cut badly.
Luckily the frame was not cut all the way thru, and he takes it to a local welder. This guy mentions he sees 5 or 6 bikes like this a month. Some idiot cuts the frame, which is a softer metal than a hardened lock, then sticks a broomhandle in where he cut it and rides off.
Just a warning for the SF residents to make sure to use beaters if you plan on an extended period locking your bike outside....
