I might get a 888 or Dorado, would it be okay to put on a Giant AC? Would it create problems with the bike? If you know any thing from personal experience let me know.
Well, I'm really light so I'm not too worried about putting stress on the HT.mtnbrider said:A 7" on an AC, would probably mean: slack, tall, too much stress on the HT.
.
NO. Can you not read? I just explained how crapyp the bike becomes with a tall fork and now you still want a tall fork? So basically you made a thread so you could just not listen to anything negative that people tell you. Genius really.BikerBoy28 said:Ohhh...maybe I'll go for a 66.
I just don't want to break off my HT. I dont really mind how tall it will be. A 66 has 6" of travel. only an inch more than what I have now.bballe336 said:NO. Can you not read? no, a 66 has 170mm=7 inchesBikerBoy28 said:I just don't want to break off my HT. I dont really mind how tall it will be. A 66 has 6" of travel. only an inch more than what I have now.
The 05 150mm 66 is probably at least as tall if not taller than a 7 inch 06 66. Both are far too tall. They will jack the BB up and still put excess stress on the headtube (even though the AC is dual crown approved according to giant). Basically if you want a 16.5 inch BB be my guest. I can tell you that for FR/DH the AC rides like ****. It's a trail bike and nothing special at that.BikerBoy28 said:You can also get it in 150mm.
Still that slider was only 6 inches. And they are very short forks. So it has the A-C measurement of the average 5 inch fork.Monkeybidnezz said:Some of the newer AC's can handle a DC fork since the last year they made them they had a Sherman DC on it. Again you don't want to get a taller fork or you will mess up your geo..
I want to put a DH fork on it because I like DH/FR. And I'm really light, so I'm not worried about stress on the HT. Also, I like the way the bike feels.(geo wise) And last, I will get used to how much taller it will feel.blue said:A seven inch Dorito is a short fork, probably as short as a 6 inch 66. It would look really funky on an AC though...
This begs the question, why are you considering putting a DH fork on an AC? ACs are XC/Trail bikes with more travel and craptastic geometry...why not sell the AC frame and buy something more suited to what it looks like you want to do? People sell DH frames in the B&S for cheap...like, under $500 cheap. I think I saw an SGS frame for $350. Just a suggestion.
Have you ever ridden on a bike that had a fork to tall for it? I feels...rather unpleasant. The steering goes into what I like to call "flip-flop" mode. Your front end just kinda flaps to either side. Also, your weight will matter little when you are landing jumps. It is magnified by many times when you land. Being a fatass would only make it happen faster, being light will simply help keep the disaster at bay.BikerBoy28 said:I want to put a DH fork on it because I like DH/FR. Yeah, I have a 5" fork right now. But its a crappy Manitou. And I want more travel because I'm starting to hit bigger stuff. Would a Travis 150 raise up the front end a ton?mtnbrider said:Basicly it will be like a chopper - slack and tall, then the headtube will fall off sooner or later. My friend has one with a Marzocchi z1 (130mm). It feels perfect on the bike.
I don't have enough money. I will only have $400 to spend.Kanter said:Get a 06 6" 66.
