So, on this years jaunt to Colorado, wifey and I are trying to decide between these two. She is a non technical fan (she likes Gooseberry, so there is some hope). We rode Emerald at Steamboat, sho LOVED that. Is there a good 2-3 hour ride in WP/Granby/Fraser that would fit the bill? Probably good for around 2500ft of climbing or so. We know Steamboat has great food, thoughts on WP?
Thanks in advance!

Looks to be some good suggested loops on mtbproject: https://www.mtbproject.com/directory/8011444/winter-park-and-fraser

Wife and I are heading to Steamboat with trail and DH bikes in a few weeks, there doesn't seem to be as many trail rides listed as I was expecting before I started ride planning.
I combined a bunch of these trails and just kept climbing, eventually passing The Trestle and reaching umteen-thousand feet at the crest. Good ride and burgers at Deno's Mountain Bistro are not to be missed, melt-in-your-mouth.

There's a good trail system on the East side of WP/Frasier, heading up into the mountains. Check it out on mtbproject.

I think Breckenridge takes the cake for riding options though, with Keystone nearby, epic rides with several thousand vertical around the entire area, stuff to do in town, etc. Not that WP/Frasier sucks, but I enjoyed Breck a bit more.

Let's talk about Vail. Does anyone have a prediction on whether Bowman's Cutoff to Vail would be rideable by late June? It's pretty high country. Not a chance up here, but maybe down there with more sun? Any other 'must do' rides y'all recommend?

It's $41. but we are staying with friends for free in Vail and comped for a hotel in Fort Collins, so we can rationalize that for a fun day that won't blow wifey apart (or me for that matter)

OK, so trip is firming up. Two rides in Vail (including one lift assist day), one morning ride in Breckenridge, and one ride in Steamboat.
Anyone have a good suggestion for a 8-12 mile ride in Breck?

Peaks Trail down to Frisco. *Should* be ready to go by month-end.

Also - on your lift day - make sure to wear out the wife early-ish, then do Matterhorn and Cougar Ridge down from the top. Meet the wife in Minturn at the end of Cougar Ridge for dinner.

And the non-lift day in Vail, make sure to take your wife on Meadow Mountain/Whiskey Creek. Whiskey Creek may be one of the best descents I've ever been on...

We are riding the first night in Vail with a local 'troller/trail builder, so I am sure he will have something good up his sleeves. I like the Minturn idea, I have had fun skiing that off of Ptarmigan...
I think I have ridden Peaks trail out and back from Breck, kinda downhill on the way down, not too bad of a climb on the way back?

It's not too bad - and if you finish with some singletrack from Peak 7 back into town you won't finish on an uphill. Which is important.

Have fun on Matterhorn & Cougar. Both fun descents (Matterhorn is the better of the two, IMO).

Rode Steamboat this past weekend whilst staying at Moots (there are apts above the shop). There are some incredible rides to be had from XC to gravel to roadie.

I snapped this pic on the "Flash of Gold" MTB trail early Saturday morning

It was my first mtb ride stateside since moving back from Germany a few weeks ago.

Whar didja land? 'Round these parts or south?

Yah - we backpacked up in the Zirkel Wilderness this year for 4th of July... we finally smartened up and took skeeter headnets with us this time.
Working in the Denver Tech Center area and livin' in the Woodmoore area next to Monument (because real estate insanity)...
