I am going to get the boot for my poor grades. Anyone got advice or a similar experience to share? I think I am pretty much screwed for the immediate future :help:

You are talking about college? (Or collage - that's how they spell it in Colorado).

Get a job you can learn to live with for a while until you're sure you're ready to commit yourself to working hard at school. Simple as that. I might never graduate, but I wont be satisfied until I do.

my mom dropped out of college. she went to work as a stock broker (requires no education, just sales skeels) and has been at the same firm for almost 30 years. now she makes mad bank and pays for my stupidly expensive private school.

I know a couple of girls that dropped out of my high school and they seem to be doing ok. They get like $15-$20 bucks for every BJ that they give. That's good coin!!

Watchin' you. Writing it all down.
Try to make it one more semester. After your parents pay tuition drop out get the refund and go to Vegas. Put it all on 00. It'll work I swear. And if it doesn't prostitution is legal in Nevada.

Yeah you can only attend public schools untill a certain age, I think 20 or 21...if you can't pass by then you are not welcome to give it yet another try.

I have had my up and downs in school.

I think the most important thing is not to worry about what to do next, but why it happened in the first place.

Firstly, what you will do in the immediate future will be pretty obvious: you probably won't have many options. You will get a job and/or move back home. The worst thing to do is to sit around doing nothing.

But knowing why you flunked out will clear your mind for now, and help you to determine what to do in the future.

Not to derail this thread, but I was logged in at the shop while I was not there, and one of our fellow ridemonkies decided to post a message under my account.

I noticed the title but deleted it before I read any of it. So my sexuality will have to remain a deep secret, except in the bars and nightclubs of San Francisco.

And it's ok steve, we all know you are gay. Only heterosexual people like me wear pink sweatshirts.

If you have no motivation to keep your grades up you shouldn't be there. Find something you're interested in and go that route where you're at right now clearly isn't for you. Or as has been sugested earlier sell your body.

I don't know where you got that idea. Are you attracted to me, and that's why you hope I'm gay?

What are you doing that's causing you to get poor grades? Ditching class and assignments? Partying?

Is academic probation an option or were you already on probation?

As to the side topic of kicking kids out of public schools for bad grades...I work in the admissions office at CMSU (Missouri) and I've seen a HS transcript where the kid didn't pass but maybe one class a semester for his HS academic career. His school kept moving him from grade to grade. Pretty sad in my opinion.

I got kicked out of UT for a semester for a 1.1gpa. Went back after the semester and withdrew while on probation. That earned me a three year suspension. Moved to California. Went to a JC and got my PE credits out of the way. Rode my bike, partied, worked for a couple of years. Then I got dumped by some girl for being a 'loser'. Decided it was time to finish school. Made the Dean's list for the next six years -- got tired of school and dropped out a few hours short of my masters.

If you aren't into school, take a break.

i wish i would've done that. i was so close. everyone says "don't drop out, you'll never go back." every time i said i wanted to take a break, that's all i heard. that was harsh. my whole attitude towards Austin and UT would likely be way different. as it is, i can't stand the school or town, as i associate them both with me being forced to endure years of crap that i didn't want to.

I should point out, that kind of simplification is never appreciated. When I had my problems in school, it was was all of this and none of it.

borrow enough money for a plane ticket from your parents and then go to a third world country and teach english for a year or 2. that'll get your head on straight.

I don't know why so many people think that there's some sort of race to finish college. Further, I don't know why so many people spend thousands of dollars on college when they don't want to be there. I failed out after my freshman year, took a year off, worked and partied, and it was the second best thing I've ever done for myself. The first was dropping out of high school at 16, getting a GED, and going to college instead of doing my senior year of high school.

I dropped out of high school after my junior year. I tried JC, but just wasn't motivated. I joined the Navy on a 2 year contract and worked my ass off. When I was done, I went to ITT (mistake) on the GI Bill and got my AAS in Electronic Engineering. After a few small time gigs in electronic repair and tech support, I landed an entry job as a software engineer. I've been a software engineer for 10 years now and love it.

2 years ago I decided to return to school and get my BS in Computer Science, I'll be done in 8 more weeks.

School isn't for everyone, but an education can be the difference when landing a good job. But don't force it, you might be ready for it after some time off. My first time off was 3 years, my second was 8 years. My wife says if I go back to school after this, she is divorcing me :D

Ya, it sounds like junior college for you buddy. Don't worry though, I'm there right now, and am doing a long retarded stint, but I am transfering to Western Washington in a year to major in Material Engineering so I can work on designing composite stuff, say a DH rig that weighs 30 pounds.

If i were to have taken a break from school, this is what i would have done. or joined the peace corps.

If you take a break do something worth while. don't piss your time away. I took one semester off during my 6 years of higher education and did absolutely nothing but work and drink and i sort of regret it.

Hey man, there's always the military. That's what I did right out of highschool and oddly enough, it's actually what taught me to be a good student. You might even get to kill a guy!
