Not much news really, had DH practice this morning for the non-top 80. 3 hours, most people got 4-5 runs in, depending on mechanicals etc...

The sun is out big time, 20 degress celsius. The track is dusty and dry, it is quite rough and a wee bit tricky in spots. Nothing hairy/hard to do fast . Although I am surprised at how hard the track is on a bike. I managed to brake a chain and saddle in two runs.

Had some lunch and stayed to watch a few of the top 80 do practice runs. Some of the Spanish heads are looking fast, Pascual Canals Flix especcially. Hill looks smooth, as do the Honda 1-4, Minnaar in particular. I saw Mick Hannah hit the last step down(which is pretty big) with a flat front and rear. Hannah Hannah(Mick's misses is racing).

4X quails are tonight, but gonna miss that, we had to take a friend of mine to the hospital, looks like he tore his ACL, he washed out on one of the berms up top this morning.

My tip for 4x top quailification spot is Mick Hannah.

Remember kids SDG I-Beam saddles are GHEY!

Thanks for the kind words about my friend, he is flying home tomorrow. My saddle was a regular plastic SDG I-Fly, I asked the Honda boys for a saddle(stab in the dark), needless to say they said no, never saw two Japenesse men looked so uninterested!!!

Bryn Atkinson was also flying today, was cruising up to the last step-down, sitting down and then just popping off, where as the likes of Peat/Beaumont/Hill were pedaling hard to clear it. Different approachs to jumping.

As for pics, I never even brought my camera to the race site. I will bring it tomorrow for 4x finals and on Sunday(depending on wheter or not I qualifiy for the DH finals).

Don't know who won 4X quali, but my tip for the top Hannahbananah crashed while doing a big no-hander over a double.... I suppose he wanted to be GNAR-core.

Word on the street is that Peaty is flying as are the Athertons. Sam Hill looked slow in practice, but practice aint race so who knows what........not me anyway........... right all you forum geeks i'm off to my bed, gotta make the top 80 tomorrow.

Towing the party line.
250 men in downhill, only 34 women though....nice.

Just got some updates in from Berny now, seems like everything is running fairly smoothly for that amount of people there.

Hopefully Ste Anne is just as successful for those of us over here. Seems like the new practice times are sticking around for good.

Thats great that there are so many riders out there racing.

Do you have to have a UCI point to be able to race a WC? Or did they go back to how they had it a couple of years ago where you just had to have an "elite" status?

Im sure you need at least one but every country is diffrent you would need to check that one with the cycling union/federation in your country.

I've noticed Hill and Minaar sometimes seem slow because they are so smooth.

Qualifying. The weather was pretty nice and sunny but lots of strong winds. There are some big jumps, and the cross wind makes it terribly scary. The dirt is really sandy in places and was breaking away in most of the turns and between jumps. Things were going fairly smooth for me, at least jumped everything, got the tuns going, but then after doing only one gate- the starting box stopped working properly and flipped a few people over. No gate for qualifying. To start we went whenever the timing beam was crossed. Uci can not get a gate to work to save their lives, maybe they should borrow the bmx one, anyway...

Lopes had a real bad crash in practice, impacting the lip of a jump full speed with his head and side, I guess. He is ok, but chose not to race ,his knee was really swollen and wouldn't pedal right, but he will be back just as fast.

My lap went pretty good, had that gust I was hoping to avoid and had to roll the big jump, but I still came out in the lead by about second over Jana Horakova and by about two seconds on everyone else. Katrina was here as was melissa buhl (without HER bike), but at least we have a large turnout and it should be some good racing. Me 1st, Jana 2nd, Anneke 3rd, Katrina 4th, Fionne 5th.

Prokop killed it in the mens. He looks fast as hell, Lucas Tamme (Cze)2nd, Jared Graves 3rd, Guido Tschugg in 4th, and Powell in 5th. Bryn had a decent run, but ran into some trouble down in the bottom and had to roll, still finished like in the top 20. EC 10th. Neethiling somewhere in the top 20 as well and Wardell had a crash and finished 53rd.

That is it for now. Started to sprinkle a little bit tonight, but hopefully we get more sunshine in the afternoon for the racing. Wish me luck - see ya jill

p.s. I just found out that Tara Llanes, a fellow American competitor of mine, just broke her ankle at the fontana national in California. That sucks, because she was going pretty fast this season, and this was probably be her final year racing. I was looking forward to some good battles with her. That is how it goes, some people never seem to catch that break. Get well soon. www.tarallanesracing.com

You no longer need points. You need to be elite, and your country has to approve you.
By "elite" is there a definition as such? Or do you mean you need to race pro/elite (as you'd expect...)? And how do you get approval from your country?

Transcend, thanks for the results. Hopefully for Hannah, the scenario will be different from Willingen last year.
By the way, Cedric lost his mum a few days ago.:( Would be awesome to see him on the podium tomorrow.
