Last year I held an undergound urban DH race in Boston in the middle of the night. We bombed through street intersections at 30+mph and swerved through peoples backyards, and a good time was had by all.

So this year we did it again but with a totally different course. We went out and covertly cut some short trails through a public park and linked them all up for about 1:15 of legitimate downhill right in the middle of Boston. This time it was early on a Sunday morning before anyone was really out in the park.

The pictures are pretty lame as there was nothing real gnarly on the course. I just thought people might be pumped to see we were able to pull this off on our own without getting shut down by the cops or anything.

Afterwards, everyones 5$ entry fee went towards a beer ball (which was cracked at around 11:45 AM), burgers, and a whopping 10$ first place cash prize, which went along with some sweet home-made trophies.

Here are the results:

-Pos - Name - Run 1 - Run 2
1 Brian Piper 1:10.97 / 1:10.91
2 Joey Appleton 1:16.90 / 1:11.50
3 Adam King 1:13.31 / 1:11.60
4 Mike Carpentier 1:14.38 / 1:16.0
5 Scuba Steve 1:18.16 / 1:15.17
6 Sean Curran 1:17.59 / 1:15.38
7 Lawndart 1:29.68 / 1:18.37
8 Justin Wells 1:19.60 / DNS
9 Craig 1:21.19 / 1:41.46
10 Esteban 1:22.56 / 1:38.28
11 Chris Provost 1:33.66 / 1:23.09
12 Pat Duffey 1:27.19 / 1:23.91
13 Mike Z 1:36.71 / 1:25.50
14 Victor 1:25.63 / 1:26.16
15 Joe Lacroix 1:29.00 / 1:30.15
16 Mike Pace Hangover / 1:31.35
17 Amy Sheridan 1:35.53

And here is a ****ty helmet cam preview of the course so people could figure it out and come up and practice it beforehand:

And here are some pics from the race:

We tried to do an Urban DH race across the Clemson Campus one day, we ended up scaring the sh!t out of freshmen during their orientation when we came flying across the library bridge with DH bikes and full faces and armor.

Looks like fun. Some kids ran an underground race by my house last Sunday night too. Unfortunatly, I couldn't go since my wife and kid just got home from a week at the in-laws. One of my team mates went. He said it was fun to race at something not quite so serious.

That type of thing is what will keep DH going in the US. Keep it up.

Next time, use paper plates for number plates or bring your own plate from another race if you want to keep it really underground.

we ride in penn state or state college the same way, not too much dirt, but its on a hill with alot of steps, don't have to worry too much about cops though

thanks guys! its cool to see everyone stoked on it. It was a great chance for the kids that normally would never get a chance to race to give it a go.

Not where I'd like
it is pretty damn cool that you are able to round up enough riders that are cool with something like this and were able to pull it off with such a level of organization

props!
