with the proud parents (MD, PhD; and PhD, respectively :imstupid: ):

with the fiancée who's planning on moving to NY with me:

looking like a goon in the crowd:

dude in the center got chronic myelogenous leukemia during med school, took a year off to fight it (chemo, bone marrow transplant) then finished up. amazing.

most everything except for the obvious point-'n-shoot photos were shot with a Canon 20D +/- an on-camera 420EX, mated to a 135 f/2L. shutter priority at 1/250, ISO 1600 mostly. incidentally the shutter is definitely going on the 20D as of today -- thoughts on what i should replace it with?!

D300 :D

The 40D is a pretty nice little piece of kit... unless you want to go full frame, because 5D prices are in the basement.

NY - I will look for the electric biker.

what brings you to NY? I did the same move and love living here. Plus if you need a little extra cash drop by the office.

Ohh and congratulation.

thanks, everyone!

amy/kevin: i'll still be in seattle for another year, but will effectively be invisible/checked out.

why new york? that's the place that let me in after much drama. if i had my druthers it'd be portland, but such is life. i spend the first 9 years of my life in manhattan so long island will be ok. i'll be there for four years after this upcoming year in seattle.

camera monkies: many votes for the 40D, and one half-vote for the 5D? i guess i'll have to do some dpreview reading <shudders>

Fixed.

The 40D is fawkin nice. If I were to switch to Canon that'd be the one.

Do you primarily shoot where long focal lengths or high FPS are a concern? Would you be concerned with cleaning your sensor?

40D.

Or, do you primarily shoot high ISO? Wide angle? Is cleaning the sensor not a problem?

5D.

If it's a mixed bag, I'd say the 40D is a better "all-around" camera, and it's cheaper to boot.

It'd be an easy choice for me - I can't afford the big guns, and shoot wildlife mostly, so the 40D is the camera to get. Higher FPS, and the smaller sensor for better pixel density.

Unless you shoot tons of action (and I've seen your epic landscape stuff), get a 5D times eleventy billion. It's a brilliant imager. The difference between an xxD and 5D in image quality is quite big. It's dog slow if you're shooting things that move quickly, though.

Oh yeah, and congrats.

Congratulations dude!

...reminds me though. I went swimming in a power plant cooling lake a couple weeks ago, and since since then I've had these huge blisters on my nads, and my turds are coming out all bright orange. What should I do?
