I am in the market for a new dh race rig after riding and racing my m3 for four seasons. I need some suggestions on a new frame. I want something that is a little lower, maintains speed well over bumps, and is a little less flexy in the rear end. I have been looking at the new canfield bike, the commencal, the ventana el cuervo, and the orange 224. I have considered the morewood makula and the new v-10 but i haven't heard much about these. Any input on how these bikes ride, perform, and maintenance required would be awesome! I am definitely open to suggestions. Thank You!

Seems like the natural progression from the M3 would be the M6. It meets all the things you required and then some. Your list of bikes had some different choices and most were single pivots which are great bikes, but will ride way different then your M3. The V10 was the only bike I have spent time on - it was an 05 and just had a real dead feeling to the suspension. Don't get me wrong, it sucked up the rough stuff, but the bike just didn't give much feedback. I've heard SC has solved that problem to some degree in the newer models though.

I would have to agree about moving to the M6 after looking at what your looking to change.

But of coarse, I am going to suggest a Transition Blindside. Stiff, sub 14 in BB, fun to ride, even more fun to race!!!

yeah i was planning on getting an m6, but i am not totally sold on vpp. it seemes at least to me to feel very dead feeling and here in the pacific northwest we have mass rain and mud which makes the bearings wear very quickly (at least this is what i have seen on my m3). i like the supreme dh a lot but its kind of a hard one to come by in my area. anyone have any input on the new evil? is it available yet?

I LOVE my 303.
In an unnatural, deeply sexual sort of way. Its the greatest thing since sliced bread, internet porn, women in lingerie and the BK Triple Stack.

If carrying speed over rought is important than the Jedi seems like an obvious choice. Still I'd also think about the morewood as it a really sexy frame with that bos shock. There are a few ppl here with them and there was some info I've got from Richard at morewood in a topic I created about getting a new bike for myself so you should find sth about it on RM.

get a DHR
i would definitely conside the dhr but their new one is going to come out a year from now.

I really like the geo on the makula, but has anyone heard how expensive they are going to be? I have heard some pretty ridiculous numbers.

Anyone have experience with the jedi or the orange bike?

Search a bit for the jedi as Bullcrew and Demo 9 have them as well as some other users.

Makulu If I'm not wrong was around 3-3.3k$ for frame + shock.

ya the makulu is around 3200. go with a turner ty, the geo and everything is there, who cares if their new bike will come out, the support for older models will always be there.

edit: jk eff those, buy my mongoose for dirt cheap

Seems like sending a PM to bullcrew would be a bad idea. I say that because I've noticed that he seems to be the kind of guy that thinks whatever he is running at the moment is the best. Its great to be stoked on what your riding, but that does make you biased, just saying.

If I was in your shoes I would wait another season. Some cool stuff should be out in 2010 and new products this year will have a year under them so any bugs should be worked out. Also since you are in the WA and I thought I saw in another thread that you were going to try and race JR Worlds maybe you should talk to Transition, Rotec, Evil, Kona or another local company. I'm sure any one of those companies would love to help you out if you are aiming for Worlds. And if I'm mistaken about you and racing Worlds; well its still good to support local companies if you can.

If you know how to ask questions instead of just asking "is it a good bike?" you can get good info from anyway. I've been bugging him about the Jedi for a while and got some valuable info.

BTW. Kona - Local company while canfield isn't? Man the world is changing fast.

I didn't say he was a bad guy or that it was a bad bike; just seems a little biased some times. And yeah Kona is a local company if your from WA. Their head quarters are in Ferndale WA, google map it. I'm pretty Canfield is based out of Colorado or Utah, thats more of a road trip to visit their head quarters where as Kona is a day trip.

I didn't suggest you did call Travis a bad guy. I just pointed out that I've got some good info about the jedi from him.

BTW. Even if kona is closer than what's the real advantage?

Maybe it's just me but I don't understand the local patriotism. I prefer to get a better bike than to support a local company. I buy what suits me better and try to support the better product. It feels nice when it's local but it'd take a lot for me to support kona if it was my local company ;)

what isn't? it's local, seems more personal to me..
Exactly. If your just buying a bike, whatever, its nice to buy local if you can. However if your getting sponsorships I think going local is the way to go because its more personal and easier to get support.

Everyone has that to some degree. We wouldn't make the purchases if didn't like them on some level. I know bullcrew, I've raced w/ BC! Travis rides his gear hard and he like his Jedi because its a really badass bike that works well for him. I tried it in the parking lot (I know, great test) and could feel some merits right away. It felt low and planted and pedalled great.

Sounds like the OP might really like the Jedi. From the list he has, its the one. For me? M6, just pure sex appeal there.:cupidarrow:

Ive got the jedi-LOVE IT. however its a "smaller" bike. im 6 foot and i feel it should be slightly bigger. Its smaller than a size large 303 and demo 9. Its super fast, super planted, and corners great. I would highly recommended it. Did anybody mention bullcrews is 35 and mine is 39 with a SOLID moderately heavy build. 8.5 frame weight ive heard? its not going to jump or rail berms the best but it will definitely rocket you through the rock gardens and not slow u down with big bumps. for what its worth i also own a 303 and although there has been times where its ridden just amazing-im not that impressed and its always falling apart on me. (but im 1 of two people to have this) only thing i can complain about on the jedi is the HA. i feel it should be a little bit more slack, but, canfield brothers told me it didnt need to be because of the axle path. (makes sense) but i dont agree completely. call them up though- amazing customer service

You do have at least two solid dealers in western WA for the Commencal that could get you set up.

I have a DHR and love the bike for around here because it is so snappy and quick when it gets tight without being unstable at speed. The pivot point could be a bit higher for when it gets fast (Whistler, the interior), but having it a little lower than say, the Morewood, I think makes for a quicker handling bike.

That said, I think if you're racing more than just the Fluidride cups, you might be happier with the Commencal because it is more of a full-on race bike. The Commie is faster over harsh chatter, it has more aggressive geometry and the adjustability to make it stupid long and slack might give you an edge on faster, more wide-open courses.

The M6 is also a really great bike, and is much, much stiffer than the M3(also important for bearing life), and in a lot of ways feels more lively than the M3 (maybe the longer front center on the 6?). I haven't seen any real bearing issues on the M6s yet, whereas the M3s required quite a bit of maintenance even 3-4 months in.

just for the record, its my brother that is trying to get on the junior worlds team and i really hope he gets on, it would be the coolest thing to happen for pnw racing. Evan Gilsdorf is a pinner and definitely deserves a shot at worlds. His sn is dhgangster.

anyways, I have been looking at the jedi a little more and I like what I see. someone noted that it doesn't jump or rail berms very well. why would that be?

i like the commencal a lot and that was my initial choice, but bti is out of commencals. so where do you get one?

I would have liked to get an m6, but I am not impressed with what intense has become as a company.

If I was to get a turner it would be through my local dealer who gets them from turner so since turner themselves is out, no cigar.

Haha thats me!

Im looking at a new bike too my m3 is clapped.
The jedi really sounds like what i'm looking for, and a commencal would be great too.

As far as support I'm lining up my sponsors for this year now. I hate to sound picky but I want the right bike and parts first haha. :bonk: I like my stuff to be dialled.
