Well now that it finally rained some yesterday at the Bird we can get out there and pack everything in really well. Its been super dry out there. The Bird is in a weird spot where it has its own little micro climate... most often it is pouring rain at Grandfather Mtn and Banner Elk but not at the Bird, but beware, there is a race this weekend in the South so be prepared for it!

Sorry to say I will not get to make it up for this event. I was really hoping too. Maybe the next race. I have a Benefit to attend too for one of my best friends….

Hope everyone has fun!!!!

I stayed at grandfather mountain last time. It's not too gravel parking lot-y with plenty of trees around etc, plus it's right at the bottom of the ridiculous road that takes you to the track.

I'm really hoping I'll be able to make it, the track looks sick.. Not sure I can really afford to considering I killed almost 2 grand worth of my dad's fish while they were on vacation...

Man, I was thinking the race was on Saturday. Now I have to figure out what the heck I'm gonna do. Don't really want to get a hotel and I don't have a tent to camp. Crap!
there are bunk room style cabins across the street at Grandfather. Use the buddy system there. I just called a minute ago. Campsites $20 for 2 people. Each additional person on site is $5.00 person.

Rustic cabin sleeps 7, 5 bunks, 1 double futon. It's next to the bath house and requires a 2 night stay-$50 night. $100 / 7= $14.30

Even if you don't use the 2nd night, that's a deal for a roof, a bed and bath.:thumb:

Oh, and Tom, I've got an extra Wal-Mart dome tent. If it rains, just toss a tarp over the top and you're dry.

Yesterday was dry at the bird but then I drove through an absolute downpour down the hill in Foscoe. Weather's so crazy round here I don't even try to predict it anymore!

I know its off topic, but where is everyone staying saturday night? Im looking for the cheapest option, like spending the night in my vehicle. If I stayed at this Grandfather mountain campground, would I be able to just sleep in my car and not actually pitch a tent? any advice would be appreciated

I have slept in my car a few times and normally just find a nice little spot on the parkway or something to pull over. Wouldn't pay for a site if your not going get out of the car...

What time does the race start? I have a 10 hour drive back to Orlando afterwards. (Cause I work Monday)
I drove straight home from a race at Beech last year and got in around 3 or 4 am. You should be able to manage a few hours of sleep if you jet right after your race run.

Cut spikes or aggressive dry tires should work fine. It was a little slick today but according to the weather it should dry out good tomorrow. It was really dry there earlier this week so the rain is probably good for it, up to a point. I think its gonna be about perfect this weekend

Clear blue skies and sunshine all day today. And the weather people have upgraded Saturday to full sunshine as well. Spikes may not be necessary :)

Does anyone need body armor for the race? I uncovered by old Azonic upper body suit in the garage yesterday. It looks like this, except with more dirt. I only used it a couple times years ago. I need the cash, so I'm gonna bring it up. I was thinking $30 or so.
Sorry for the spam.

On that note, not trying to hijack any sales since it's totally different and totally more expensive but, I have a used one time like new 661 race jacket. I'll trade for cash, but significantly less than it would cost new!

Escape Artist - What size is that Armor? If it will fit a 150 lb 5 foot 10 person I'll take it off your hands if it is in good condition. I'll be driving a tan F-150 with me and two kids. Thanks, Kurt
