Has anyone heard if Beech is gonna open the park on dates other than the Nationals for 2012?

I was told by a very good source that the park will be open a total of 16 days this summer, two days for the qualifier, 4 days for nationals which would leave 5 weekends for riding. no dates yet

I'm pretty sure Herndon has another year of digging out there. They don't want to fully open until they are a legit bike park with multiple trails. Pretty positive there will be 3 races and national champs, hopefully we get some riding days also

Part of that success is our responsibility. We need to go there and spend our money on lift tickets or season passes.
A resort with lifts and great trails under 2 hours from me, I'll get a season pass every year . I could only imagine living closer to Snowshoe!

Just wanted to give an update. I met with the GM of Beech today and we had a nice meeting. Biking is definitely on his mind and there is even talk of a really early season race. More to come on that early this week. Obviously National Champs is a go again and will be held the 3rd weekend of July. The hope is to have another full on qualifying event prior to National Champs to help everyone here in the Southeast get qualified. On top of this there is talk of a few other unique events and then some open ride weekends. Obviously trail expansion is the first thing needed before the park can open and that is a high priority. Beginner trails top to bottom will be the first thing we focus on. February is an important month for ski resorts in NC and let's all hope for a good one, the better the ski season goes the more resources there are for Summer expansion. Sponsors have been very good to us so far and have helped the mountain get to where it is currently for Summer operations. There was a lot of infrastructure put in last Summer and now we hope to be able to expand the trail system to support the demand. I know everyone isn't a racer, but for now the more support we show at races the better chance we have at a full on park. In the end a park is the goal and I know for one I am looking forward to being able to ride with everyone in our backyard.

Hope this helps and see you all at the races.

Thanks for the info Chris. We will be there to support you guys, your efforts and Beech. It seems like Mother Nature is being so nice, but I hope it turns for the last two months of the winter for the mountain.

You can count on the Charlotte crew to be at the races and ride days that happen this year. Thanks for making this happen, and for Beech for have the kind of terrain you need to keep people coming back.

Chris, Any new information? You mentioned, "More to come on that early this week"

Is there anything that we can do now? Ask Beech about season passes? Other, etc?

Are you guys going to have volunteer type trail days?

Let us know please sir. Thanks!

Hey Everyone,

So here's the news....March 10th will be the first race of the season at Beech. This will be a slalom only race. The race will go on during the session break of skiing in the evening. The course will be prepped, time to practice early in the day, then qualifying, then race time with hopefully a lot of skiers headed up to watch the show. I know someone will ask and the answer is.... this is not a snow race. This will be on the same track National Champs was held on. I was up scouting the mountain a few weeks ago and the track is in surprisingly good shape. Looks like there will be a discount to all racers who want to go hit up the slopes as well.

Beech Mountain is really committed to bringing lift assisted cycling to the Southeast. Hope everyone comes out to show your support.

See you there.

Chris, if you need any extra hands for digging I'll be moving to Boone when I get back from New Zealand this summer. I did a lot of digging out there with the LMC crew and I'd love to get back at it! All this progress is looking awesome! A qualifier in the summer would be awesome since I'm missing a lot of races for my trip.

Get Talia to let you take your bike up the lift one time near season's end. Orville let me & Cecil do it one year at Wolf and it is the fastest I've ever gone on a bike in my life bar none. :thumb:

I'll do my best ot be there. I think everybody knows I suck at slalom, but love to ride.

For the DS only, yes it will be a qualifier..... says so on the flyer.
Oh, thanks, I had not seen the flyer. I figured it would be but wanted to make sure. I would love to go down to Beech for the race on Saturday then ride Windrock on Sunday on the way home.

I talked to Talia this week about event sponsorship.... as far as I know there are no set dates, at least not that I was told. I would imagine they have a plan, but aren't ready just yet to roll out that plan.

Question for Chris Herndon...... If and when you all are putting in new trails at Beech, what's the story with volunteering/lending a hand to help with building? Can we help or is there some sort of liability with the resort preventing the public from helping out?

If we can help, we would love to. Let us know. Thank you sir.

Not trying to complain, but not naming dates until this time of year is going to hurt participation. Even my lame calendar is starting to fill up with fluff. Kids activities, family reunites, crap, junk, don't wanna go but gotta stuff.

Clock is ticking and we all wanna.....

Yep, have to plan my vacations in February. Happened to be off for the DS and it was a blast! Thanks Chris and Beech Mtn. Keep up the good work. Just hoping you guys get some dates up soon, so we can plan to be there.
