We already tried this many years ago and have settled down to a combination of width/strength/weight/tire-profile.

Who here wants doublewides? Carbon doublewides? Didn't think so :)

It's funny because there are still many pepple who think doublewides=jesus. Last weekend I've seen a kid on a steel hardtail with 24'' doublewides and 3.0 gazzas. What made me laugh the most was that his bike behaved exactly like a fatbike.

Not with that bike.

Unless it's a 'participation' shirt.
It's the same people. They will just add a fatbike category or some other crazy functionality. Someone needs to make a fatbike with an integrated strava sensor.

when are we getting "wide rims"-specific tire designs? Or have I missed that dark, nerdy corner of MTBR?

Actually, a serious question, since I'll need to know what tires to avoid for my normal rims.

When the new "Gazzi Boostduro" tires come out, your narrow ass 25mm rims will be, as Kranked said, unrideable...(PS - if they're 26" rims and still in good shape, ping me :thumb:)

I don't understand how can everyone push fatbikes so hard. I know they learned from their 29er mistake of not pushing stuff hard enough but while 27.5'' is a sustainable standard how many people will ride their fatbikes after purchasing them? They are not cheap enough to cater to "i need any bike cheap to ride with my kid" crowd and the core hates them. In 2 years no one will buy them. Hipsters in 30 years will restore them and dress as mad max pretending they live in the desert.

The same with overly fat rims. The industry went to far, in 1-2 seasons they will have to correct it and go for a middle size of rim width (27.5/taper of rim width). I only wonder if the "lets make them too wide and then make them a bit narrower in 2 years and sell as a new product is deliberate or just stupidity"

30mm ID isn't too wide @norbar . The wide rims from a few years ago were super heavy, which outweighed (see what I did there?) the benefits.

Hopefully this new crop of wide alu rims stand up to the abuse (will have to see if mine lasts)
