  • Looking to ride the DS you built at GIHP in prep for GTech race in Fall. Course still open?
Hey yah just saw that last night. ARE You just going for the day?

I will see, kinda broke, been working too just spent out on
play money since I went to Mass.
Planning on hitting the OPen in a couple weeks so trying to recover for that
but, practice at Windrock would be just as valued!
hey man whats happpenin? its been a crazy last couple of months for me work has been hectic and riding nonexistent. going up to WR this weekend wanted to see if you had any plans. hit me up
Hey Chuck. I may be interested in that fork you have for sale. Give me a ring when you get a chance.
I agree we should continue down that trail and see whats down that way. I believe that would be the longest line to switch back down that ridge a couple of times. I still would like to build 2 or 3 lines where we parked taking advantageof the rock and that funky tree. I'll bring the blower, shovel, and rake. We can get something going fairly quick since there is not alot of brush or growth to deal with. Pretty much blow a line and ride. Your the veteran I'll follow your lead saturday.
What up. I got your message today and saturday would be good for me. You want to try to get 2 others to help work. I'll bring the ti spring for Ethan as well.

Thanks chuck for all your help. Keep rippin'!

Yes, I was there racing gay - I mean giant slalom and Downhill... cool dh track for sure!
Sounds like you have a great set-up bro! I think I have seen that bike before either at races or for sale online. Enjoy! That will do you fine for Dh racing, the geometry stuff is not a huge difference so just rip it up on what you got and you want know any difference. Look out for the team guys the locals there at Diablo are Dennis, Jason, Ken and P.J.
We the south guys will be at the Snowshoe races if you make it down to any of those look me up, we will have a Giant tent across the road from the start.
    see yah Chuck

Cool man, the rear shock has been upgraded to a FoxDHX5.0(8.75x2.75)
Rest of the components:The components are as follows: -Avid Elixer Brakes -Shimano Saint Hubs on Mavic 823 rims (tubeless) with triple butted spokes w/ 8 in. center lock rotors -8 spd Sram Attack Shifter with Sram 11-23 cassette with PC-870 chain with Shimano Sora rear der. (8spd is stronger and the rear der is cheap to replace and works great!!!) -09' Rock Shox Boxxer suspension fork (still under warranty) -08' Fox DHX 5.0 8.75X2.75 Shock -MRP G2 chain-guide w/Truvativ Husselfelt Cranks 170 mm with Howitzer Team Bottom Bracket -Funn Direct Mount Stem, Race Face Evolve DH seatpost, Easton EA-70 Handlebars, Cane Creek Double-X headset
So it sounds like your saying that geometry determines whether a bike is suite for DH or FR. I understand rake and head-angle and what your speaking of i theory. I just don't have the real world experience of riding different bikes/diff geometry. Thats cool that your able to take time out and explain. I appreceiate it. By any chance were you at Diablo FreeRide Park in New Jersey this past May for the DH race???
Yes, that's a great bike especially for your first dh/fr bike. Sounds like it's set-up in the right direction with the triple clamp boxxer. Just prob. customize it more for your needs as you wear out stuff, replace with what you like. The Glory 8 is the same bike as the brown one I had. Prob. black or white but, anyway that is a Freeride geometry. It has a 67 degree headangle with the 170mm single crown fork that comes stock on that bike. So with a 203mm travel fork you achieve more rake on the front, what you need for steeps and going faster on steeps to be more exact. On the Glory 8 it just sets the front end of the bike higher to achieve the slacker angle.
The Glory DH has a 65 degree headangle and mine has a 64 degree with the fork I am running. It sets alot lower and just feels more racey I guess. The bottom bracket on the DH also sits lower and the travel is 8.8" DH rather than the 8" on the FR.
It is a better set-up for racing but, You will be fine with what you got for sure. 8" travel is plenty! I don't notice the extra travel as much as I do the geometry diff.
I race Pro so any gains are important to me and just having the bike more specific.
Doesn't mean you don't want to race the Glory 8! I raced the Brown Glory 8 for a season and competed well and never knew any difference -yah know.
I think you will love the bike, just take some time to set the suspension up by just experimenting with diff. setttings. Do some digging on the specific shocks you have to find out how to get what you want out of them. The "brand" or rather "level" of the rear shock can make a big diff. from a cheap one compared to a top notch one.
The adjustability can make a diff. on whether you can clean a section smoothly due to bottoming out or not having high/low speed damping etc.
You prob. have the same shock I had on my glory 8 which was the Fox 4.0 DH shock?
The 5.0 def. is an improvement but not a huge difference considering the cost to change.
You'll figure out what works and what you want to change along the way but, it's a good bike that turns well and eats some pretty gnarly stuff up. If I didn't get the team hookup I have with Giant now I would still be riding the Glory 8 for sure! Enjoy and give me a holla if you have any questions! check out 2wheelfreaks.com (My team website) for the bikes we are riding now and some tricks for set-up and modifications.

i just bought a 2008 giant glory 8. Is this bike a DH or Freeride....and what's the difference between a DH and freeride bike anyhow???? It has an upgraded '09 rockshock boxee ( not the world cup ), and some upgraded aftermarket bikes. I bought it before i saw your bike in a post. Man i wish yours was still for sale. It just looks like you set it up just perfect....ohh well. I have saved the post to get some ideas on my '08. do you think the glory 8.0 is a decent machine? Thanks
Yes the Brown Giant sold a while ago, guess I should have marked it sold.
I may have my '09 glory dh frame for sale in August, suppose to get the '10
    sometimes in Aug.
There are several of the 07'-08' Glory FR-DH stock bikes for sale at like 1500+
Check on ridemonkey, pinkbike, ebay, or qbike can help you find one.
They are great bikes I can vouch for that! I love the Dh bike I have now.
Are you wanting to use it for Freeride or Downhill? I was using the brown bike
for mostly DH and a little FR. I can tell you that you prob. want the Glory DH
rather than the FR if you are doing mostly downhill. The geometry is so much better for DH!
    Good Luck!

That's cool, I told him we could have the party at Tyus park (they like to ride on the nature trail)and after the party we could load up his buddies and go break in his new bike on your track :happydance: (weather permitting). Thank you so much for getting back to me so quick!
Peachtree City track used to let you come out and set up a birthday deal on your own, maybe they have changed it I don't know but, the track is open to the public all but, race and gate practice so I would think it would be ok to have a party??
Nah, don't want to attract any more attention than it already brings. The old man who lives there is pretty cool, but the neighbors are always looking for something to get me kicked out of there. A little riding here and there will be O.K. but, don't want to invite to too many locals and have to worry about someone getting hurt. I have had the place there for about 10yrs. under the radar just practicing there myself with an occasional visitor or so. Anyway just be careful and ride as long as it's not muddy. Looked at the place yesterday and it needs some drying out and some minor repairs I will do soon.

Chuck thank you so much I was told by Kathy Wells that you would be o.k. with it, but I didn't want to cause a problem for the neighbors of the track. My name is Rachel Jones and I live on Patterson Road. With my schedule it's hard to go out of town to watch the boys ride so I am so excited that you will allow us to practice on your track. The kids are 16, 13, 11 & 10 they all wear saftey gear and we wouldn't dare disrespect the work you have done. This may be a strech to ask after just getting the approval from you to "ride at our own risk" but Trea (my son) wants to celebrate his birthday at the track but none of our local tracks offer something like that, would it be plausable for us to invite a few relatives to watch the kids ride and have cake together?
You can ride there just don't make any changes to the course without my knowledge. I will let you know when I will be out there coming soon. I have been out of town racing for a couple weeks. just got in. You can ride there without me just ride at your own risk.
my name is Chuck Pitts you can tell the old man that lives there i said it's ok if he asked just respect the land and trails and ride all you want. What's your name?
    C
Hey Metal Dude! My son and his friends have found your track on Bates road. I want to join in on any updates you have on races/practices out there. We live just a few miles from your track and the kids want to practice on it, is that allowed?

interested in the giant, where are you located? bpoorer@yahoo.com
hey im kind of interested in the wheelset. im running 32/36 mtxs, the front hub is a formula20mm and the rear is the big whopper abbah. i want to know more about the rear hope. im running the abbah as it came w/ the bike. the questions i have are mainly have is would it be strong enough. since i am a 220lb guy i definitely wont be riding deore hubs anytime soon. the old stigma of heavy=strong is not really appealing to the scales. the pro2 is just over half of the weight of an abbah. i dont race seriously but i have been riding with my friend who currently attended the junior worlds in italy, he is riding a glory. so chasing him has been putting my bike (and me!) through good tests to say the least. my email is chris__243@hotmail.com maybe we can exchange some more information about the wheelset. pictures etc. i know you recently hooked up with profile for their new hub but so far i like the sounds of a pro2. i havent had any issues with my abbah so i want to find something that is equally as strong and reliable. if we can get some emails shooting back and forth i will send u a picture of my glory and you could give me some tips on dieting. haha. thanks for any help.
you have a glory FR spec'd out with fox 40s, and weighs 40lbs. would you mind sending me a picture, or a link to a picture of your bike? i have an 08 glory 0, spec'd like the dh and i was curious to see where people are dropping weight and i always love seein another glory!
