Just new and adding friends. Love all bike sports.
For steep climbs you need to be in the appropriate gear before you hit the hill. If you find it better to be in the granny gear for climbing go ahead and shift into it as you approach the climb. The next thing to do is to remain seated with your weight shifted forward on the nose of the saddle. At the same time lean forward and pull the bar into your chest. This will keep the front end from wandering. If you're using proper climbing techniques and continue to stall out then it's a strength issue, which will improve with time.

As far as getting over fear associated with drops and steep descents, drink liquor. Just kidding. Controlling fear is an important aspect of mountain biking that can be translated to other areas of life. Fear causes you to hesitate and hesitation will get you hurt. To clean a particular section of difficult trail requires commitment, again something that comes with time and practice. In downhilling there is a saying, " you have to push negative thoughts out of your head ". That means that you need to focus on the follow through and convince yourself that you will ride it clean. Don't think about what could go wrong because when you do that you increase your chances for failure. Do not attempt a technical section if you are hesitant, leave it for another day. There have been many obstacles that I have looked at several times before attempting. Experience has taught me to back off if I'm not 100% committed.

    Good luck.
hey yourself.....how r you? did you ride yesterday? how did it go? did you see the 30' anaconda over by the creek?
