Really liked the newness at Pleasanton - rode it on my new 26" rigid and old 26" P1 in BMX race setup last Sunday morning - lots of fun. Props to all the hard work people have put in - keeps an old guy on his toes there...
How does Snowmass and/or Aspen area rate for expert level DH (lift or shuttle assisted) and dirt jumping? Trading options for a family travel July 4 week 2011 - strong pull to visit old family friends who recently relocated in Aspen - but I need really good trails and jumps. Else its Whistler...
the amount of whoops, ruts, and occasional soft spots that developed due to the late heavy rain were a surprise and slowed down the course to times similar as last year...but thought it added a bit of a new dimension in line selection and suspension need on the lower part of the course...burly...
Bummer about the shoulder - but beer can definitely be medicinal...
And all the 1.5 inches of rain has done so far is water the course and help to pack down some of the new dirt. Clearing by tomorrow - rideable by Wednesday / Thursday morning at the latest. Forecasts are showing dry / partial...
Wild Bill has completed the DH course - faster is the theme. Upper jump section tweaked a bit and all jumps totally groomed - some backsides extended and lips improved means bigger air and faster. Getting backside on big single to table in reach of mere mortals. Berm before big table reworked...
technically too dark for me also (just trying to "adjust" my schedule today ;o)
sunset = 4:55pm ; civil twilight = 5:23pm ; hoping to get an hour of jumping in...
great to know... usually check out any new place with short travel FS first (saves me wrists and ankles ;o) - but front suspension really min requirment - cheers!
Hey G - is Cunningham allowing full on MTB at bike sesh? Was told 24" full rigid and no hydraulic disc allowed. Tweaked my PStreet to comply - unfortunately didn't enjoy the full rigid experience like I did 30 years ago. That was a little over a year ago. Place was awesome.
New right side is a nice add...took a couple tries to get over the third - unfamiliar on a spare bike set up XCish with sticky knobs didn't help - that and being old (me - not the bike ;o)
The second and third jumps are trick friendly - but the first required (me) to more race jump. Not...
After the post I thought screw it - haven't been to Pleasanton in a couple months (DH and trail riding mostly) - hit it up around 3 pm yesterday and it was amazing. The dirt was fantastic, people have been grooming and building new lines. Its still no Aptos PO - but it is way fun. Careful of the...
Pleasanton (dirt) Bike Park (Stanley and Valley/Bernal) is 24/7, not too aggressive but can build / shape your own if you would like...
Other skatepark options include Pleasanton (off Stoneridge) never a hassle to bikes, Martinez, and the new Morgan Hill Skate park are all fun. Alameda...
Echo that - White Rabbit climb is short and the single track really fun. Can really test your turning skills and setup (read most can ride it - but railing it a challenge - you will immediately want to ride it again). Had success with WTB Prowlers XTs (slight trim on front) for the fine loose...
Forgot to mention "Off-Shoot" - that has some puckering steep with turns and drops - uber slack geo and a real rear tire certainly helpful to ride it... and "Marty's" with a couple cool hucks (took a couple B-runs to nut up for the hip over the rocks) and some fun rockgardens as a lead in to...
Have gone both extremes on the Hotel front - Windsor Inn is economical and a rock's throw away from Ashland Mountain Adventure offices where shuttle pickup. Ashland Springs is top flite and right near Lithia park. For camping - try giving Wild Bill or Sue a call / email at AMA.
Ashland trails (are) the freakin BEST - All Mountain or even full DH - there's stuff up there that will challenge you and have you smiling on runs so long (try 20 minutes of near continuous down at a time on some) that you won't believe it. Nothing like it around for variety of trails - and with...
Changes to 2nd straight and final straight now makes every jump on the track fun - can't say that about many BMX tracks - very surprised / happy to find. Lips more vert and distances reasonably longer allow for good air. Even windy days OK as direction is generally aligned one direction or...
Is it confirmed Livewire and Gypsy will not be open on Friday? How about other trails from the top?
Lower section does look nice - great job - are there any good size jumps at the bottom?
