    We had 6 at one point (the result of combining households) but are down to 3 now because of lifespans. I always thought 3 was a good number because I could still handle them walking and camping, but could take one with me and wouldn't be leaving one alone.

    You may be able to use something like this: http://www.southwestwheel.com/store/showproduct.aspx?ProductID=3942&SEName=universal-flat-mounting-plate It bolts under the step of the bumper, and you may be able to retain the ball on top if you move it off center or something.

    I just got a Caad 9 7 frame from Cannondale to replace my R4000 which developed a crack after 8 hard years....the new frame is great! (They honored the warranty too) Although since I switched over most of my components I can't vouch for the parts spec. It's available with either standard...
