We're kicking off the 2024 Secret Santa! Exchange gifts with other monkeys - from beer and snacks, to bike gear, to custom machined holiday decorations and tools by our more talented members, there's something for everyone.
50 miles of GRVL riding and had to attempt to put out a campfire assholes had left burning. All there was to hand was a tiny amount of snow and scooping up handfuls of dirt.
This was in the Hayman fire area, right near the Lost Creek Wilderness. They'd also left trash all around the site and in the fire ring.
Had a very similar experience hiking a few months ago on the windiest day of the year. So much so I called it quits since the trees were talking. Dude had made a campfire at one of the picnic areas, cooked lunch, then just left with the fire still burning. Fucking idiot. Dumped out all the water I had on me and went back to the car for more.
you usually go to the nc coast, iirc. if not, hit carowinds! gonna be beautiful this week and there are some great coasters.

We are headed to the coast, yeah, but also to charlotte late in the week for a wedding. I think my wife would kill me if I tried to get another coaster park in. Fury 325 or whatever is way up on my list though!

Ruth had a really good competition the weekend. a third and 3 first place finishes. We were beat after driving home and unl0ading the trailer so we went and treated ourselves to dinner at pacific catch. The Fish tacos were so good
Flew in from CA to RI following conclusion of family road trip; arrived at the house 1:40am. Woke, breakfasted with in-laws, got to work building beach bikes that were delivered long ago.
Beach cruiser for the kiddo:
Then worked on my BMXy klunker thing:
And taking note of this, remembered I'd packed four un-drunk Pacificos in my suitcase...and remembered to put the frame bag in, so I could take some payload along...
So I inaugurated with a spin to the beach, finding a coaster brake made the little treed paths fun and truly enjoying the cruise.
Beer was a little foamy from bunny-hops...(get it?). Got showered, as did the bike.
I walked it along the sand, drinking, crossing a little stream, and catching up to the dog-walker in the first photo--she was cool. Former bike tourer, now 72 with two hip replacements and gave it up. Talking to her I remembered I'd not recovered the bottlecap after the beer-splosion. So extended my ride and eventually looped back to the start of the beach to collect my litter, and found a couple others to take as penance.
I really, really grinned riding around the hood like the biggest 12 year old in the state. Can't wait to do it with the kiddo.
Noticed the wife's beach cruiser was getting rusty in spots so I gave her bike and all of the others a little Gibb's Lube protective layer while they're shut up in the shed till July.
Solo legs of my road travels commence tomorrow.
(Also, anyone need a 19" Jamis beater hardtail, v-brakes, in New England? pickup near East Greenwich RI...)
Did a tour with some friends. Took a work buddy on the steeper tour up. The girl wanted to go up the "easier way", but it ended up not being easier with some alder bullshit on some steeps. But we all met up at the top. Here she is skinning up with her dog across the valley from us.

Museums are out of the question. Can't leave both dogs in the van. We've done plenty trips down your way in the past. We'll get to Sedona later this week. Never rode Hangover and Highline
