Anyone know if the 06 Giant reign 2 with a 5th element will work well for downhill?

Where do you live? It will better than a jackal with a huge fork.
Edit: Just saw that it wasn't the Reign X. In that case, I don't really know if it will hold up. Why not just Ebay some SGS frame for that much?

I have put quite a bit of time in on a 2007 Reign 1, which is quite similar to the 06 Reign 2. Here is a review that I did of that bike.

It is very capable of handling downhill terrain, but is truly an all mountain bike. If you are planning on doing mostly bike park riding, or shuttling DH runs, I would suggest a Reign X or a Glory rather than the Reign. If you are looking for one bike to do everything with, including some, but not only DH runs, then the Reign is a fantastic option.
