We did hit on this one a while ago, when Judge Moore in Alabama was in the news.

Anyways, to recap, here is my view:
No
Never
Not Acceptable

You don't have to. You can affirm that you will tell the truth. Swearing on the bible doesn't magically mean "no perjury."

Not true. :monkey: I sat on a jury for a trial that had over 10 witnesses - not a single one gave an oath on a bible or said "so help me God."

Why does your father think it is a good idea?

Because they are the basis of this countrys laws. So why not display the source is Americas laws.
Ask him how many of those commandments are currently laws in this country.

1. No other gods.
Nope
2. No graven images.
Nope
3. Do not take God's name in vain.
Nope
4. Honor the sabbath day.
Nope
5. Honor your father and mother.
Nope
6. No killing.
Yes
7. No adultery.
Nope
8. No stealing.
Yes
9. No false witness
Kinda, applies in a court setting, but there is no law against lying. Applying the letter of the law, yes, but the spirit of the commandment goes further IMHO
10. No coveting
Nope

So we've got 2.5 or 3 out of 10. I'd hardly call that the basis of our country's laws.

If they can display the ten commandments, they should have a statue of someone raping a goat aswell.
A priest with a altar boy would be more relgiously appropriate, I think

Even as a Christian, well I try anyways :D , I see no point in displaying the 10 Commandments in government. Praying for people in power is about as much influence the "church" should have in the government.

Well I just found out that the KKK and the House of Prayer ( some of them went to jail for beating children in church) are going to be rallaying against the removal of the 10 commandments in the court house.

Also the local paper had a petition to keep them up in the court house. NAAAA thats not biased at all.

Welcome to the SOUTH.
