Buying some cranks for my 2007 santa cruz v10 frame. Just wondering if anyone is running 175mm cranks? I know they are too long on a sunday. Any problems on a v10?
well isnt the v10 bottom bracket higher than the sundays?
i ran 170 on my sunday with no problems at all so im sure youll be fine, just watch your pedal strokes in the rock gardens
EDIT: v10 BB is 14.8 inches, thats almost an inch higher, im sure you will fine. and also the v10comes with 170 cranks so 175 will be ok
I agree..... I ride with a team full (about 10 riders) all have had 170s now all of us ride 165s. You think its not that big of a deal but it really is... do yourself a favor get the 165s- JM
What sort of problems? Bear in mind that differences among BB heights of various popular DH rigs are much higher than those 5-10mm in crank length. Yes, some of them sag in more or less, but that just won't equalize them all. If you calculate sagged difference between V10 and Sunday, it is about half inch. So with a 175 crankset, you will still hit the rocks less while pedalling your V10 than with 165s on your Sunday. Maybe my figures are wrong, but you got the point. Of course, if you land a drop with one of your pedals up and the other down, you might get into serious trouble
170s will be fine. If you know how to time your pedals then there is no reason to get 165s on that bike. 175s may be pushing it, but if the new V10 is designed not to sag as much and sit as low, then who knows right? I doubt many on here...
If you're buying new cranks for it get 165s, there's no point running anything longer than the shortest cranks you can get for DH. If you've already got 175s, you might as well put em on and see how they go.
It is all about comparing sagged BB height of a certain frame/tire setup and the length of your cranks. also remember there are plenty of different pedaling styles among us. compare to what you've ridden before and you'll be fine.
