You're not going to get enough of a diff between a short cage and a med. cage that it's worth the effort to change between Shimano and SRAM. And I think a lot of of the arguments about shifting systems or derailleurs being better than one another tend to come from the fact that whatever we're trying out is simply new, rather than that much quantitatively better than our old stuff.

That said, I'm a SRAM fan...but I used to make a 36/22 front work with an 11-30 rear and a short cage, and I've seen plenty of 11-32s work with short cages. Unless you have a particularly wierd hanger, you should be fine with any length cage.
