The sick steep section Wayne speaks of is nuts. There is some footage from about 4 years ago (I think I have it on VHS, was it Torque 2 or something old like that). In the vid EVERYBODY crashes. It's a steep loose shale roll with a hole to launch over followed by a loose shale off-camber left corner. Making that corner at speed will be very tough. Maybe they've fixed it up but it was pretty rough last time I saw it.

That big shale section has a steep boardwalk over it to save people from breaking body parts. Too bad its gone, but the ramp is so steep that its still hard not to lock up. There's a big sharp corner of death right at the bottom of it that will definitely give you "the fear" the first couple of times, especially at race speed.

That section is tamer, but the section just above it I've seen good riders walk it. Its scary the first time, but after the lump in your throat goes away, you'll be fine. This is a good place to make up time or lose a lot of it. If you can let the bike run over nasty ****, the world's your oyster.

I will be driving up from Colorado sometime early in the week. I can pick you up (BCD) if you fly into Kamloops. I am staying in my van down by the river.

I rode insanity 1 last year (and every other trail on the mountain) and do remember some steep! bridges on a couple of trails. Should be a fun, challenging race. Does anyone have more details on the track? Is going to be an arm burner like last years course? Smoother? Rougher? Faster? Approx. times?

no canada cup and the vegas show.

you should kill in the 40+ class this year.

i have been roadie'it 4x a week, pump track
and dirtjumping.

what kind of training have you been doing, aside from
racing all summer like a madman

This just in, they are cutting a new upper section.....again. So that mean the steeps of Insanity One are not going to be in race, but a re-route instead. I have not seen it yet though. The section of the course that crosses 5 Mile Road and down over the cattle guard, all the way to finish, will remain mostly the same with a small detour at the bottom.

This was straight from the horse's mouth.

good i like those parts. i ate crap over the second roller b/f the road gap.
they way they are blind rollers and trun slightlly to the right make them
very hard to hit fast.

one thing i did notice about last years track. was the very last chicane
could be cut, no tape. if they still use that this year i am letting someone know. i did not see any cutting till race day, saving lines you know.

I hope to kill it but a couple injuries (just muscle related, nothing major) has slowed down my training a bit. I have been living/training racing at above 8,500 feet for the last month so that should help minimize the effects of my asthma. I am going to try to get to 5,000 feet at least once a week starting this week to do intervals. I am planning on hitting Big Sky, Fernie and Kicking horse on the way to Sun Peaks, should be a fun trip.

I am really looking forward to this race, A LOT of friends are going so it should be fun. Is interbike the same week? What do you know about this new course?

By fast stuff at the bottom do you mean that it hooks into the old course? I am just trying to figure out if this is going to fast like last years course or slower/more tech. I like the fast rough stuff like angel Fire.

Just got back from Sun Peaks. They are still building the new "High Octane" trail that will be used for the race. It's more or less in the same area. The new trail is planned to be wider and faster than the old trail. From what I was told, construction is going slower than expected due to the trail not packing in. They want it to stay a fast trail and not get all rutted and blown out. Looks like it will meet up w/ the road and follow the course like last year (Arm Pump). I forgot how much my hands hurt after riding that course!

No rain, hot & sunny.

Part of the slow progress is that they only have a few workers for the whole mountain.

I'm going up saturday to check 'er out.

Went up yesterday and looked around for the new course. I was given the proximity of where it should be, but what we found is not something you'd want to race on. Actually its without a doubt the single worst DH race course I have ever seen.

Imagine racing down a super steep single lane highway (speed skiing?) completely void of any features or obstacles. Riding the brakes to keep the bike at about 70kms/hr is more like it. We didn't see any other course in the area and we looked. You guys had better hoped that this is not the Master's run.

My Monies On Heath! All of NorCal is rooting for you! He looked solid at the Nationals and Downieville. Not bad for a Skateboarder?

2007-2009 it will be in France.
Transcend said that it will be in France for the next 3 years. Unfortunately, unable to attend this year due to a separated shoulder. But may be interested in making a vacation trip next year if it is indeed in France.

Favor for those attending this year . . . .Will those attending this year ask around and confirm it will be in France next year and the dates? Unless someone already knows. Thanks.

that section was knarl! the vids did it no justice. i think it was that same year that i raced it (canada or bc cup, i can't remember). the attrition rate in practice from crashes was just silly. so much carnage. great course though.

yeah. just a fond memory. i haven't raced for a couple years now (damn whistler and its tantalizing trails). how is the master (expert) category these days? seems that local racing is on the decline.

I hate to bum anybody out but I rode the course today and it was pretty lame. Steep and scary fast straight aways on 6" of dust. So far everyone who has ridden it has complained (dangerous, not fun) and we are trying to get moved to Insanity One. Having ridden here last year I was expecting a sweet trail so lets hope it gets moved.

Are you sure it's a new course? The Mondial du Velo website says that they're using the same course as last year.

Trust me its a new course. I rode it and I know the people who made it and who are helping organize the event. Last year's course does not exist anymore as its now a ski run.

Yeah, I took a little vacation and took my time getting here. I hit Teton pass with Lance Canfield and friends, then Big Sky, then Bernie B.C. for a Thursday night race and did an xc ride in Revelstroke. Last year this was my favorite resort so I wanted to play on all there fun trails and not just practice the race course.

It may rain tomorrow but it is so dry it would take a lot of rain to do any thing. It is so soft! The berms are already getting big holes in them, there are a lot of 100 foot long 8" deep ruts (that you are doing 30-40 mph in) and breaking bumps. All of this from maybe 11 riders each doing 3-5 runs. It is going to get ugly! I spoke with a marketing guy who was doing some course work today and suggested using Barn Burner (a blue trail but really fun, the blues here are tougher than in the US) or starting a little ways down Barn Burner and connecting to Arm Pump (also new, to the left of last years) from there down.

I heard that there was supposed to be a meeting today to discuss the course and possible changes. Anyone hear about this and any possible outcome?
I can't believe they wasted their time building a new track when they have so many tracks that they could have used. We had a great time freeriding there last year before the race.

Hopefully they pull their heads out and get a good track before thursday!
