I bought the wife a 2008 SX Trail.


What spring weight for a 180 lb (with gear) rider?
What spring weight for a 140 lb (with gear) GIRL rider?

I dont want to use the spring calculator. I want to hear what the SX Trail guys are running?

I weigh ~145 and ran a 300# spring on my SXT with a DB. It was a good setup.

I weigh in at 190 with gear and switched between a 400# and 450# this year on my DHX. I settled on the 400#

On the stock DHX 5: I'm 145lbs, running 350 for DH where I want plush and 450 for freeride/DJs. For my weight it runs very very stiff with a 450, great for DJ's. 350 is good for general DH. I think 300 would be too soft for me on the DHX 5, but it might work well with something like the DB and a 145#rider as bicyclist was running it.

Another note: I also ran a 350# for a while with the Double Barrel, and while it was close to the correct weight, it was a bit stiff for real DH riding. OK for jumps though.

Now, how about you heavier guys? I want to have a spring for me for her bike just in case my is down for a bit.

What are you 170-180 lb guys running on the DHX?

I would guess a 400-450# for you. Probably a 400#.
