supremecockriding rode a broken one for like a year that was cracked. Didn't kill him. The falling unrelated to the bike is what made him a little funky in the head.
Commencal screwed me over royaly. I had a 2008 DH Supreme and was lovin it. Unfortunately it was a terribly constructed frame and cracked in four places after only 3 months of riding. I wasn't worried about it because it had only been 3 months and I was the original owner, no problems with warranty right? WRONG, oh so very wrong. I work at a bike shop and know how bike companies normally work and standard policies. The bike brands we deal with aren't the best in the world with customer service, but that at least stand behind their product. Commencal ran me around in circles with a load of crap for almost 8 months. They weren't going to warranty it because I raced it. It says all over their website DH RACING Supreme. I have to admit, the bike rode well, but for a frame to crack in four places after only 3 months is absolutely ridiculous. Finally they realized I was not going to drop the issue, and after 8 months of arguing, they agreed to sell me a frame at a discounted price, which was still a rip-off because they didn't send it with anything (shock, hub, chainguide, etc...) So I basically just bought one at cost, F'ing ridiculous. I would rather slit my wrists then ever deal with this company again.
my friend has been riding his supreme dh with a cracked chainstay for the past year (2007 frame)supremecockriding rode a broken one for like a year that was cracked. Didn't kill him. The falling unrelated to the bike is what made him a little funky in the head.
Riding Supreme rode an 06' with a crack under the headtube, and your right it wasn't really growing once it appeared. It was for this reason I felt comfortable riding my 2008 which started cracking in the same spot, once again I will state, after 3 MONTHS. The crack was consistently getting wider and more visible on mine though. Then someone noticed some hairline cracks starting to form all over the welds near the dropouts on the swingarm, not good. It was then I decided to overcome my extreme desire to be on a bicycle 24/7 and stop riding this deathtrap. I researched it online and as it turns out a lot of people were having the same exact problems as me. I don't know if Commencal stood behind their product with anyone else, but they sure turned a blind eye to my ordeal.supremecockriding rode a broken one for like a year that was cracked. Coming from the guy who can't even install his own chainguide. You better watch your mouth or I'll never even look at your bike againAll I have to say to regain top entertainment value is this;
Compare yourself to me, Then kill yourself.
My bike is way cooler than yours. I'm way cooler than you will ever be, and umm.. ya kill yourself. (insert family guy clip unrelated to the subject here.)
*** <You know what that means! hahaha
Its not just about the quality of the bikes, its about the company as a whole. They are terrible to work with and have no interest in pleasing or working with their customers. Commencal has by far the worst customer service of any company (even non-bike related) that I have ever seen. I have had better luck at the DMV for gods-sake. Furthermore, I don't care how much of a hack you are, NO FRAME should crack anywhere after only 3 months, you can't possibly argue with that. If you plan on buying a Commencal you had might as well just kick yourself if the nads, if you have any that is.Now for something a little more serious.
About the cracking head tubes, chain stays, etc.. If you look carefully on the new bikes and compare them to the old, you will notice large improvements in reinforcement. They made the material in the gussets thicker, and the weld beads wider as well. And that's mostly noticeable in the head tube. For the Swing arm, not only did they strengthen through design, but they also added extra material on the brake side of the swing arm to reinforce it. I am very sure that the new frames are 100% stronger and less likely to crack than the old ones.
and to the haters out there who have broken their commencal's.. how many bikes have you broken? Perhaps your commencal disagreeing with you, (to put it as nicely as I can,) is not the first time you've experienced frame failure? Perhaps there are more forces at work on your frame than even you realize. And I do include myself in that statement.
When you ride hard at any level things break, its just the way things are. Its up to the manufacture to produce products which exceed the need, if you will. Which brings me to a point much larger than this silly thread;
Manufactures seem to be exceedingly less helpful in any sense these days, haven't you all noticed? Even at races, most company's wont even take 10 minutes to change the seals on you fox 40's even if your a Junior X or higher.
And the company's that do offer help demand the same $ if not more than you would pay at your local shop. Its really quite sad.
How many people that went to sea otter noticed this as well? How many of you cats who work at bikes shops find it harder and harder to get things warrantied or replaced from a manufacture?
You can either, go home and cry about it then buy a new one, or you can just cry about it and quit riding all together. I on the other hand won't quit riding unless I am physically unable to, no matter what the cost. Can I get a witnESS AH!
I don't know **** about Comencal frames, but ANY frame is just as likely to crack on day 1 of hard use as it is on day 100, assuming you're keeping your shock and fork serviced and your pivots tight. If you hit it too hard, it breaks. It doesn't matter how old it is.NO FRAME should crack anywhere after only 3 months, you can't possibly argue with that. .
thank you. I have never understood that either. About time someone else questioned that.....^ I never really understood the mentality of free parts and service 'at the races'...why does everyone expect this?
I have used the same analogies forever-I can not take my motocross bike to the pits at supercross and get new top end, I can not take my canon cameras to an expo and get new rubber grips put on, I can not take my macbookpro to a computer expo and have apple replace the worn keyboard.
Head still spinning with why the bike industry was 'supposed' to give out free sh1t.

Because R tard. People who race are the people who spend the most money on the best $***. How dense are you that your head is always spinning. perhaps you should wear a helmet when you ride.^ I never really understood the mentality of free parts and service 'at the races'...why does everyone expect this?

Well put there, champ. Adults usually don't make personal attacks like "tard" or questioning other's intelligence and mental state. Adults usually master the form of passive aggression rather than blatant childish name calling. Regardless though, this thread is quite entertaining to read.maybe you should wear one when trying to have an adult conversation too. irate2:

if your keyboard is worn out, clearly you spend too much time yapping. If you really had a mind capable of conceiving the idea of a few simple hand-outs in support of those who ride in the only manner which really matters. Racing is what brings out design flaws, Racing is the WHOLE F ING REASON THERE ARE NEW PRODUCTS EVERY YEAR.
so like I said, perhaps you should wear a helmet when you ride. and for that matter, maybe you should wear one when trying to have an adult conversation too. irate2:
screw downhill racing, I'm going to go to motocross where all the chicks an $ are at
I too had a 2006, when it cracked they were very helpful and gave me a new frame. They had it shipped pretty fast; I got it with in 3 weeks. The 2008 has a pretty large gusset plate at the base of the head tube and down tube junction. I was very happy with the bike and must say it is quite certainly my favorite bike that I have had so far. I just got the new frame a few weeks ago and have been very happy so far, still working the kinks out but I'm sure it will surpass the 2008. It really sucks if you had a bad experience with them. They were very nice and cordial with me.Are you sure you had the 2008 Commencal ? or maybe the one you received was a factory defect. It is kinda odd that commencal wouldn't help you, because they have a 2 year warantee system in which they will replace anything that breaks on the frame without question. You being a shop employee and all Isn't it supposed to be easier for you to get a replacement? the late batch of 2007 - 2008 commencal's have the head tube reinforced. I cracked the head tube on my 2006 Supreme, but loved the frame soo much I decided to buy a 2008 one, and I love the thing to death.
Ever heard of yield???wrong, there is a thing called fatigue
hope this helps

It rubs off (har!) when you're totally down with the cock like he is. Don't listen to him if he tells you otherwise. He's usually just eying you like a piece of meat.
Next thing you know he'll have a crotchless Commencal skinsuit or something. It's like he's still in the closet but the closet has no door and it's facing a bay window out to a busy street. If you get my drift.
brother, the reason there are chicks at the motocross races is because they came with the dude who's already got money. If you don't need a CDL to drive your rig to a moto these days, you might not get in the gate.screw downhill racing, I'm going to go to motocross where all the chicks an $ are at
Am I sure it was a 2008??? You know now that I think about it, it was most likely a 2012 prototype with a 2008 paint job. I bet thats why they wouldn't warranty it, I had no proof it was a 2012. About being a shop employee, after Commencal did all this to me, they tried to tell me they wanted us to be a dealer. Ya, thats exactly what we want. That way when bikes keep braking every three months we won't have to warranty anything and people will just keep buying $3000 f'ing dollar frames all the time, apparantly that is Commencal's sales tactic. Hope its working out for them.Are you sure you had the 2008 Commencal ? or maybe the one you received was a factory defect. You will never own a DH bike long enough or ride it enough miles for fatigue to be the source of failure. You will always yield some portion of the frame long before that.wrong, there is a thing called fatigue
