I'm in the process of dialing in the RC4 shock on my 2010 Demo 8. If you have any experience with the same frame/shock combo, please share your settings! Thanks.
I'm glad someone else posted up. I've been trying to find what other people are running right now as well.
I'm 160lbs with gear.
I've currently got a 400lb spring, I'm waiting on the other half of my Fox order to get my 350lb spring.
Take this with a grain of salt as my current 400lb spring only gives me 22ish% sag with a 1/2 turn of preload(once the spring doesn't rattle freely, I add a half turn)
I've got one run on the bike and had:
Air volume: 125psi
Bottom out: Backed off completely
High speed: Backed off completely
Low speed: 5-6 clicks I believe
The bike actually felt really good this way on the one run that I did take.
The proper spring is supposed to ship out on the 18th and my settings will probably change then.
Just today I dissambled a Fox RC4 that comes in a Demo 8 2010.
The rider ask me for a LITTLE more LSC ( he was running full LSC, HALF HSC). He is used to a heavier spring on the shock soooooo
Right now he is running 10wt , 6 clicks close to open in rebound, bottom out open all the way, high speed 3 clicks from open to close and almost full LSC.
135 psi Air volume
I hope he could test the shock this weekend for some feedback here !
I'm running just about everything wide open because I'm on a spring that's too heavy for me as it is.
The Demo is pretty similar in height to my last bike. The Session 10 was 13.8" bb height with 10" of travel.. sags to a similar height. I rarely tagged my pedals.
On my 2010 demo, the first run I did (with 165 saint cranks and Fox Dhx 4.0) i was dragging the cranks in every turn i did, really low compared to the sinister R9 i was running out before, so i did put more air (now running 140 psi) a little more Lsc and saddly my dhx4.0 don't have bottom out ! but i think that now i can turn without hitting the ground so easily.
I did some tweaking this weekend, and here are my results.
I'm 185 with gear, and I'm running a 500lb spring. This gets me about 33% sag with about half a turn of the preload collar.
125 in the air chamber
Bottom out all the way counterclockwise (-)
LSC 7 clicks from the dial turned all the way counterclockwise (-)
HSC 2 clicks from the dial turned all the way counterclockwise (-)

Sorry, I should have mentioned that! I would say that the settings are good, but not perfect. I spent the first half of the day messing around with the shock, but then I got impatient and finished the day by doing a lot of uninterrupted runs. I'll spend some more time fine-tuning next weekend, but I think a few more clicks (2-3) of LSC and maybe 1 or 2 more of HSC could be good.
I'm needing a bit of help setting up my shock. I'm finding it's a little bit rougher than I think it should be.
I'm 155lbs running a 350lb spring.
HSC is backed off completely
LSC was in like 4 clicks, now it's at only 2
Rebound is getting set slower each ride.
Bottom out is open, with 125psi.
I'm finding that I'm getting bounced around quite a bit. I feel as though I'm only using half the travel.
Bottom out is pretty harsh, so I need to ramp that up.
I too have no idea about the setup, I find it feels bottomless but bottoms out if that makes sense, adding compression just seems to slow the speed down (but better in the wet). Square edge bumps feel like **** and the bike almost stops over repeated small/medium square edge bumps. No idea about the setup I should have, I'm 80kg and probably running a heavy spring at 450lb, LSC-0 HSC-2. But I did have a chat to the guy's at Tekin and they said I should be running 3/4 bottom out and as little HSC & LSC as possible, plus a softer spring but I didn't want to get the BB any lower.
From the info you guys have posted it completely contradicts other information I have received.

The repeated square edge bump thing is what is really getting me too.
Running through a rock garden at speed, mid way through it feels like the shock has packed up and I'm bouncing through.
However my rebound is set I believe 4 or 5 clicks in. I'm not positive, but it's unlikely that the rebound is causing the shock to pack up.
I would really like to run a Vivid on this bike. Are the eyelets in the bearing end of the Fox on the 2010 Demo 8 II's the same ID as a Vivid?
The shock seems to like to be run with a lot of compression. Full linear, 160 psi, try 6 out from full-in on all clickers. Right now I'm at 6 out LSC, 8 out HSC, and 5 out on rebound (so 5 clicks from wound all the way in). It's set up stiff and slow and once you're up to speed, it feels PERFECT. Stays nice and high in the plush part of the travel and doesn't kick back weird on anything.

That sort of makes sense.
It makes sense in that the 500 and 400lb springs I was on before felt good everywhere but on the small bump compliance.
Now I've got the small bump compliance but everything else seems harsh.
What doesn't make sense is how can increasing the compression make it feel less harsh?

Feels like crap going slow. Going fast it moves just as much as it needs to in order to get over a bump and doesn't F up the attitude of the bike with a lot of wild motion in the back end. Moves up and out of the way in a nice, slow, controlled manner, doesn't bottom, holds up well in corners and G-outs.
Well now, with the new rebound damper in my boxxer, new tires, bars and stem; it looks like I'll have to spend tomorrow hiking the local hill figuring out my settings.
I'll try bumping up the the HSC first, then checking out my bottom out.
I ended up on a 300lb spring.
I'm running 2 turns preload resulting in 19mm of sag(36.8% if I'm not an idiot at math, but I probably am).
4 clicks from full open on LSC
1 click from full open on HSC
2.5 turns on bottom out
135psi
I don't recall where my rebound is click wise. I think its about half way in.
These are the settings I finished off the day with yesterday.
The rear end feels much more lively on jumping. Direction changes are tons easier now. I can tell precisely where the rear end is and not get tossed around. Bigger high speed hits feel smooth now and I can maintain speed, where as before I was landing and having a hard time recovering.
