Marzocchi flat crowns are made from 7075 alloy, the go-ride crowns are only 6061. That is huge stength issue right there.
The 170mm 888 is 30mm lower in ride heght than a 200mm 888. I read this early in the post and it stated that both the 170 and 200mm forks are the same ride hieght, not true. WIth flt clamps, a 888 170mm travel is 549.5mm tall, a 888 200mm is 579.5mm tall. That's from center of axle to lower crown race.
