I was digging through my parts bin and found 3/4 of a cassette. I need the lockring though. Is there any reason I can't use a 9 speed 11t lockring with the 8spd (assumed) 11-30t cassette?

A lock ring isn't doing anything too complicated. Put it on and try. As long as enough threads are engaged and it is compressing the rings so they aren't sliding around it would be fine. An 8 and a 9 use the same space on a cassette, it is just tighter with the higher gear numbers which is why a 8 speed chain won't work well with a 9 speed cassette.
