Hummm... cinnamon???

What's the purpose?

*edit* Ok, I added it in... well let you know in a few hours about the flavor. Sounds good though.

Just a little tiny bit, like an 1/8 tsp. or less.

Gives it that, "Wow this is awesome...what the hell is in there?" taste.

Lavender does the same thing in some meat dishes, used VERY sparingly.

who the hell makes/eats mashed potatoes during August in Louisiana?
I'm picturing a dirt floor kitchen with an old rusty fan barely working while N8 (in a dirty wifebeater) leans over a lobster pot full of potatoes stirring them with a broken canoe paddle while he drips sweat into them...

guys a backed patato, steak and a cold beer is probably the best mix anyone has or will ever think of, the only thing that could top that would be a beautiful girl fro after word or have the girl cook it for you !!

Is marinating steaks a southern thing?
if it's brisket, flank steak or london broil, then marinate it. if it's sirloin, ribeye, filet, etc - S&P, slap 'er on the hot grill, ~4 min per side depending on thickness, let rest for 5 min, and serve.
