Here's some of the new stuff the trail crew is working on. This stuff is going to be bigger and faster than anything else at Windrock.

This is a new hip that can be launched 5 feet to 40 feet.

Hip lip.

Infinite backside into a chicane followed by another jump to a natural backside.

Can you picture a narrow goat path. Look down in the valley and you can see the parking lot. Thats steep and a lot of elevation to drop.

Pictures can never truley capture how steep a trail is, but try this...

brian and i kept working on that second jump after you split.

we built it up another rock layer and then raked all the loose dirt from that whole area down onto it and packed the s... out of it.

tommorrows rain will do that whole area nice.
and we'll get back up there saturday and build the jump out complete.

that whole section has turned out so nice.
thanks for the help and adding a new set of eyes to the building process.

that last shot was good to show the length of that section.

but there's just no way to grasp how much elevation loss there is, nor the off camber, nor all the loose shale stones.

we figured the other day, that there's at least 80-100ft. of drop there.
if not more.

also.
in the picture that doug calls the "goat path".

take a real good look.
all of ya'll who have yet to grasp the theory of "slow in-fast out"
are going to get a crash (pun intended)course in it right there.

if you go off the side of that trail, we'll never see you again.
you'll just be the skeleton we find during next winters building season.
and we'll auction off the bike to fund the trails.

(hmmmm. we should have thought of that a long time ago.)

Off topic - Several years back in Linville Gorge, a man my family knew went missing on a hiking trip in August. He disappeared in the gorge and they found no evidence of foul play or anything. No scent trail, etc. In December, once all the leaves fell off the trees, another hiker spotted his body. It was in a tree 75 feet off the ground. He'd fallen off a ridge and into the crown of a poplar.

"like the movie Riding Giants.
only our waves break every day."

that movie relates so closely to what we're doing on our bikes.
every time i'm sitting around channel surfing and that comes up,
nothing else gets done til it's over.

the last segment with laird hamilton is probably the best thing my television has ever brought into my house.

WOW.

there'll be plenty of opportunity for that up here in the future.
we've already scoped out enough area for building the next couple of years.
and alot of it may run along sheer drop edges.

Are you building on private or state land? The terrain looks amazing! Well worth the drive from VT this spring if I can get some riders together. Props to you guys and I can't wait to check it out...

Now for a serious question......and I know the word "crazy" isn't a clinical term----so stay with me here..............

these are totally legal trails on private land.
a land access fee is required.

Sorry man, I completely forgot about it.

You coming to the Icecyle?

If you are pedaling in that section, then you have HUGE balls. :)

Planning on going. Not sure if i'd prefer a snowy race or what exactly... How fast do you reckon one could get going if they were to pedal there :)

I got re-inspired to dig today. Buddy of mine is staying in a shack in the middle of nowhere and the owner is letting him dig.
He's an old moto buddy and always creating dirt!

We build a step down to a step up to a right handed booter up a huge bank that falls off into a wide berm...such fun. Not one rock in site made it a little easier to pull off than digging at Windrock though...

Just out of curiosity, lets say I'm a......more advanced than beginner, but still not up for the super burly DH trails. If I come to ride windrock, will I be returning home, or should I just bring a pinebox and a will?

No one here wants to be an exclusive snob, because I've meet so many good friends through biking that can barely ride XC. However, because of the danger beginers present to others while on these DH trails, its best to learn to DH elsewhere.

Unless you can race DH in at least the Sport class, Windrock wouldn't be much fun anyway.

Check the Rules for Windrock Sticky in the South forum.
