Anyway, the best course designer on the planet will have a difficult time building anything that will last in the sand out there.

Not if they gave them suffecient time, and resources and supplies. There are plenty of things that you can do to dirt and sand to make it last long enough for the duration of a 4X race.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will be a good course.
