OK, so I am getting this crazy pop ups, but they are through the windows message program.

I ran Ad-Aware, and that didnt help. Any one else having this problem?

THis all started happening after I tried to reset the firmware on my router.

Its a coincedence that I also had my computer at school today "illegaly" hooked up to the school network. and sharing disks with one of the computers in the computer lab.

heh, sharing disks. that sounds funny :)

type "gpedit.msc" in the windows run menu

Go to:
Local Computer Policy
User Configuration
Administrative Templates
Windows Components
Windows Messenger

Double click on
"Do not allow Windows Messenger to be run" and
"Do not automatically start Windows Messenger initially"

Set them both to "Enable" then restart

Dude, also if you are nearby other people that use wireless stuff, make sure you set a unique key. I'm not positive of the details, but I have some college buddies that had a wireless router and had like 10 other people with wireless nic cards in their laptops pimping off his connection. I'd also use a different IP address for the router than 192.168.1.1

Yeah, one of my neighbors has a wireless router, and hasnt set it to use WEP, and whenever my router is not on or whatever, my computer jumps to her network. Unfortunatly, she doesnt have anything good shared.

(I have thought about sending somthing to her printer just to freak her out.....maybe, "I LIKE YOUR SHIRT")

Go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services.

The service you are looking for is called "Messenger".

Double click on it, choose the Startup Type as "Disabled" then hit the top button.
