One down, a few thousand or so to go. How does that drowning pool song go? If we still had the "old version" of the CIA this kind of thing would be easy. Now, who was it that was saying we shouldn't be going after Hussein's govt?
Palestinians: Notorious Terrorist Found Dead
Palestinians Assume Suicide, Say PLO Rival Suffered Gunshot Wounds
POSTED: 9:50 a.m. EDT August 19, 2002
Palestinian officials on Monday said the schoolteacher who became one of the world's most notorious terrorists is dead.
The body of Abu Nidal was found with several gunshot wounds three days ago in his Baghdad, Iraq, apartment, Palestinian officials say.
Palestinian Authority officials speaking on condition of anonymity say the assumption is that Nidal killed himself, although they offered no explanation of how that was possible with more than one bullet wound.
Nidal, an enemy of Yasser Arafat's Palestinian Liberation Organization in the mid-1970s, is believed to have ordered the assassination of several high-ranking Palestinian officials and a failed assassination of Arafat in Syria in 1974. Nidal was a Palestinian renegade who had his hand in several Middle East terrorist ventures during the past 25 years, from blowing up American airliners to attacks at sidewalk cafes.
Nidal switched sides often -- getting backing from Iraq, Syria and Libya at various times. He masterminded killings of both Palestinians and Jews.
Israel's foreign ministry refused comment on Nidal's reported death, saying it was an internal Palestinian matter.
