Ok so I've been trying for a few weeks now to get a badge to walk out on the ramp at the airport to be able to use my dad's plane. The whole thing is becoming a major pain and they do not want to issue me one because "the airplane is not in your name but your father's name."

I've done all their "training" took a stupid little test on ramp safety but they still won't give it to me. I'm on the insurance for the thing so I really don't see the problem.

Most of the time I honestly don't need one since I am still doing training for other ratings and my dad is my instructor...BUT if it's nice weather, I can still fly by myself since I have my Single Engine Land license. There are days when he's at work and it's good weather for me to practice "commercial" maneuvers (like spot landings, etc) but thanks to the SB security...I cant.

Anyways, I just thought the whole thing is stupid. If I'm a licenced pilot, on the insurance for a plane and my father is the owner (and has had an airplane parked there for years)...why can't I just walk the 200ft to the plane by myself!

Ok, im done ranting about this :p

See if your dad can put you on the title? Then the plane would be in both your names....
Ya, there's no way he'd want that!

and Pesqueeb...yep I guess I'll have to! Just makes things a huge hastle for my solo cross country flight for the Commercial rating since my dad would have to not be flying a trip and I'd have to have nice weather :~

Oh and tell me if this regulation makes any sense to you. That solo flight has to be no less then 300NM total distance, BUT the first destination MUST be greater then 250nm. Why don't they just say that it's a 500NM minimum?

Cant you walk out to the plane if an employee(ramp guy) goes with you? Thats how it works at the airport i work at anyway. We're supposed to "escort" a non- badgeholder out on the ramp.

I get to fly planes. Boo hoo. Poor little rich girl.
Cool because I pay for everything I do. In fact before my parents let me drive a car I had to have my pilots license. That involved me spending $130/hr of MY OWN money renting planes for about 60hrs till I got the license. Oh, and that was when I was getting paid $7.25/hr.

I'm not rich.

Anyways, I've talked to the people at Atlantic and they said that I need my father to escort me out there :~

And yes, my spelling SUCKS.

Must be nice to be able to fly. I hear it's like $38K to go to school and you can get it in 6 months if you go full time, but even then, you have to fly the big Boeing FedEx or UPS jets for about 3 years at just $17K a year to get your flight hours in before you can apply to Southwest and make the big bucks.

P.S. I PM'd you about your badging problem.

Front Range, dude...
Did you engage your Dad on this? Have him ask them to issue you a badge to go to HIS aircraft? Did you askto see the instruction that stops you from getting issued the credentials? Or is it on some minor bureaucrats whim that you are being denied?

Well he called the FBO today (Atlantic Aviation) and explained things to them. They then called me and said that "until I get my badge they will escort me to the plane and will have a supervised pre-flight."

At least it's something...but the "supervised pre-flight" I don't get...95% of the people there don't fly planes so wtf is the point of them watching me check over the plane!!

The good news...I just planned a quick flight for tomorrow as a farewell to 2010. My parents are both in Colorado right now so I'm going to fly the plane to an airport about 50mi. away and wash/wax it for him. Figure he does a lot to help me out by teaching me for free (minus the cost of gas) so it's only right for me to pay him back somehow!

Didn't get the message :~

And loco-gringo....yes, they made me get that before "we trust you driving one of our cars." God forbid I mess up their beloved 2001 Toyota Prius or 2000 Chrysler Seabring...
Good news for me though is the prius broke down, cost them $4,500 to fix (hybrid battery's died) and now they're getting a 2011 Jetta TDI Sport Wagon to replace it :D
