maybe her credit card company she used has insurance which will help cover the expense?
my brother-in-law (foolishly, it turns out) refused the insurance when they visited us in ireland. on the way from the airport to our house he got in an accident which was totally his fault. doh! he called the credit card company only to find out that they didn't cover cars driven in ireland, northern ireland, jamaica and israel. wtf, mexico and iraq are covered and ireland isn't?
it was an expensive lesson for him.
