Towing the party line.
The progrt DH event in port angeles, washington is scheduled the same weekend as the Seattle round of the Supercross.

No DHer would ever want to go to supercross...naw. It's a 2.5 hour drive each way, so commuting isn't really possible.

Yeah, clearly JD is an idiot. It must be because hes working 20 hrs a day, because we all know that the entire world revolves around the DH world and he could get any day or venue he wants by snapping his fingers. ;)

In other words, probably the only day he could get?

The proGRT schedule is about ready, but i don't think they are ready to release it to the public yet.

Also, there is a ton of Fluidride cups at Port Angeles, so it seems like another combined race would have made more sense? I know a bunch of riders will be skipping it in favour of SX. Braaap!

I think thats a list of compiled races and he'll pick and choose it would be too much to be in nevada and seattle or whatever the cross over dates are.

Yeah, it was a list of the availible races, not just the ones I plan on attending (however, that list is almost as long just picking which race to attend on certain weekends with overlaps)

How awesome is the DH scene that we have up to 3 conflicting races on the same weekend?

Summer will be busy! And I getting married in the middle of it all! :thumb:

another sign that Fraser talks outta his ass. Jesus man.. do u seriously know nothing? as much work that's put into all this.. logistics, working out travel, scheduling, preferences from riders, media & industry alike... u think i have the option to schedule around a SX event? seriously dude, stop complaining & do something that'll help it. i work my ass off on all this for no $$... & all i hear is complaints by people like you. all i can say is kiss my @ss.

As much as I LOVE SUPERCROSS.. scheduling around that was the LEAST of my worries. If you want to go to supercross, then GO TO SUPERCROSS.. it's another sport... do u seriously think i'm gonna try make it my priority to schedule around NFL, MLB, NASCAR?

Last year (i donno if it was on the same weekend or not), a ton of riders gathered at a local bar & watched it on TV. had a blast & raced the next day. if you have no interest in it, that' completely fine by me. I know a number of elite national & international riders that are going to be at the Port Angeles event.

...not to mention that we were scheduling this event a full year before the SX dates were even announced.. yah, i'm clearly an idiot here.

First off congratulations!
As long as they arent all smae sanctioning bodies then it should be OK, it allows people to get the series in there area.
It would be nice to have a BIG westcoast series to work with the eastcoast and angelfire etc... Then it would a 3 ring circus of racers and crowd like overseas.

Oh well we can only wish!!!!

Of all people, you know full well I have put in my time, and then some.

Also as someone who is more than local to a ton of SX races, I think you may be seeing things a bit different than those up in the PNW. I am sure there are a ton of racers going. I also happen to know of some bigger name riders who are going to SX instead, that's all.

again, you're not seeing the bigger picture. yes, if i could have avoided it, i would have... but this works out best for a lot of travel logistics & opportunities getting bigger riders/teams here, etc. ....& i know some bigger name riders going to the GRT event... "oooh... & my older brother can beat up your older brother".. give me a break.

another reason why the MTB industry is completely retarded is because of threads like this...

this guy has clearly put countless hours into this series for little or nothing but the good of the sport and people complain because it may inconvenience a couple dozen people?

Be happy there is one of us motivated enough to put on a series like this.

So you call the organization of the PRO GRT retarded, but say you didn't single anyone out? If the PRO GRT isn't JD, who is?

Admit it, this was a dumb thread to put up. Its not like JD scheduled a race at Bromont the same weekend as the WC in St Anne.

JD, I still loves you baby baby, even if I will likely never make it to a single race you put on. :D

I think if anything it shows how retarded the attitude and dedication of some riders may be.

I know the GRT is not World Cup and of course the competition is no where in comparison,

But I would think riders who are truly dedicated to getting better and making a go of it as a professional would take every opportunity to race?, especially when the only resemblance of a national series is going to have a stop on home soil.

I think its a good test to riders of the area in regard to their commitment to any sponsors they have as well as the local race series/promoters and the work being done towards resurrecting a national gravity series in the states.

****, this thread is ridiculous. The only solution is to have a lot less organized races, maybe if we're lucky it will just die off entirely and some of us will get to sit and watch Speedvison instead of traveling to races.

Can we delete this entire thread and replace it with a "Rate my bike" thread?

This pretty much sums it up.

Seriously - conflicting dates with SUPERCROSS? Jesus christ. It's not even the same sport.

There are so many races that just choosing a good date for the 5 K DH was very challenging. I can't imagine choosing 5 or 6 dates with no mt. bike racing conflicts. Impossible. Now try to avoid other sports. Jeez!
Excellent job and thanks JDD.

Fraser what the hell are you on about?

Now I know one of my favourite things is to piss off the PNW guys....mainly for sport. (It's just so EASY!!)

But while their feelings may bruise easily, and they are retarded for other reasons, they guys in PA have been busting their asses for a long time building what quite frankly no-one else in the state has been able to do. Jason Mosely and Casey Northern (with the help of others of course), have literally spent years building a seriously kick-ass network of DH trails.....AND they have the buy in from the local land authorities.

And while I'm at it, while I may have had my issues with Simon from Fluidride, I'm not sure there is another human as dedicated to the sport as he is. I spent the better part of 2002 in his little apartment doing what I could to help him with DHNW. I quietly thought he was nuts for not giving up. He literally went a dangerously long time eating nothing but those Gatorade powerbars because he had landed a sponsorship for them that summer. (actually that may have been in 2001). But sufficed to say, he always had his eye on the prize. And while I do think he's a bit of a pretentious boob, I cannot help but admire his dedication.

Now while I don't disagree that the MTB industry is totally retarded, the guys in PA and Fluidride (from the aspect of putting on events) are not part of the problem.

I realize you are new to the area and what with all your jet-setting about you may not fully appreciate what they have accomplished in the last few years. They re-established racing in the area. There some valiant attempts made by Kevin Ryan (the CPR series in 2001 and 2002....which was the most fun I ever had racing). But it never really gained the traction of the Fluidride cup and the ODS stuff.

So all that to say, the fact that they have a conflict with an event from a different sport entirely, does not make them retarded.

I don't get it, if doing both SX and DH in one weekend is a priority, then drive the 2.5 hrs from PA to SEA and watch it. If driving that twice in one day is a problem, get a hotel room in Seattle with your bros and pile in, then get up early and come back in the morning.

Seems like a great opportunity to have a double header weekend. Glass looks half-full to me.
