a good friend of mine has a 1997 cbr600 F3 and he lost the only copy of the key he had.

any ideas?

On some motorcylces there is a code on the ingition. You just write it down and take it to a locksmith. They can make a key from the number. Did it with my 73' RD250. Dunno about newer bikes.

i just checked the ignition and there are no numbers on it at all.

Call a locksmith. They can come out and should be able to make a new key.

I know for cars if you take the vin # to a dealer they can cut a key, so that may be true for bikes also.

Yup, take the VIN to a Honda shop, they should be able to come up with a key code. He may even have a code printed in his owners manual.
