ok, what the hell is the point of a DH frame, with a single crown and street tires????? where has this gone, i know the frame, its very nice, but why market it with street wheels? it makes NO sense, and if any 1 that has one set up like that they are just weird!

It's not a DH frame. It's the 6 inch version of the link. And from my understanding a lot of fun for urban. Just my 2 cents:D

1.) the piece in littermag is a photo essay of doc's personal stable of bikes. not a marketing piece for brooklyn. he's running those tires because he lives in nyc and commutes on that bike. gee, what do YOU use for daily transportation?

2.) useless bike??? i'll bet you it's got more uses than your downhill, bmx, 4X or commuter bike combined.

you OBVIOUSLY don't KNOW the frame :D

And you know what, I used to hear that exact same kind of shayza when I first got my 4" single crown fork and rode it XC "You got enough travel there????" and "weirdo!!!!".

I actually STILL hear the same kind of shayza when i ride my mini XC. I'm thinking of adding an ejectable mallet on my handlebar to solve the problem :D

Did I ever mention that doc's bikes are hands down THE definition of pimp-age-ness??? (pimpified!)

That (litter mega-zine) article is just awesome.
To be succint, Doc is a man who knows how to integrate soul into a bike frame when he's building one.

And you can ask the devil himself if you like, but a soul never comes cheap :D

Is it worth it?

if you have to ask then you'll never know :D

I pimp it up urban style on my 43lbs Nicolai with 8/8in travel, and big old knobby tires. I love it, you obviously dont know much about urban, the drops stay the same size as the ones on trails, but just because your on cement doesnt mean you cant use a big bike

Kate is graduating this weekend, and Mem Wknd we may go to the race at 10e. Tenney is less than 2hrs from Boston. According to the Open sched, we would spend twice as much time driving than riding. Also, my friends and I have an annual Mem Wknd camping trip, and our site happens to be ~10 minutes from 10e. I should be at the next PKill race, but I think that Kate may have a big XC race that weekend.

maybe if you like huck-a-rific urban, but the man has a point. for trialsy urban riding that bike would be pointless. i think it looks like great fun myself, but probably not the best for what i ride when i cruise around on the street.

that would be perfectly understandable to state it doesn't suit ones own riding needs but mack never made that point. he ridiculed the bike owner for his tire choice !!! (even after it was explained why he's running them) then ranked on other people who enjoy urban on big bikes.

the funniest thing about all this sillybanilly banter is this quote from the first page of the photo essay these shots are taken from in littermag...written by the WEIRDO running road tires on a USELESS bike: "don't get caught up...the bikes are just tools for fun...and fun comes in different shapes and sizes..." he must have known about mack.

So am gonna add some lighter fluid to this fire.

I've taken my mini-link on a few shortish XC rides now (5 mile loops or so) and must say i'm really amazed at how versatile this frame truely is. Mine is set up fairly heavy, 01 6" SuperT fork, 2.7 tires allround (heavy-C), gack cromoly bars, and comes all together to about 44ish lbs. I'm 5'5, about 180lbs, completely out of shape and have still managed to ride this thing XC almost as good as I've ridden hardtails on the trails.

The mini's short top tube and short chainstays, combined with a steeper head angle make this frame handle amazingly in tight singletrack, wether you're climbing or zipping down the twisties. At the same time, this frame is super plush and has the bottomless feel of freeride/DH frames. It's not the most intuitive bike in corners, but once you get the feel of it it can rip in the hairpins.

The frame is also super low, so a dorky looking ridiculously long seatpost is required to get full leg extension for pedalling power. No biggie. Speaking of pedalling power, BMW's jack shaft system really delivers. The power transfer's litterally like a hardtail. You never ever feel the suspension is robbing your pedalling energy at all. The only downside is no granny gears, but with a 25 tooth profile ring my mini rides like a reg. bike in the middle ring... Not so bad but as long as the climbs aren't too steep :). But all in all, if you put your leggs to the task, the mini is a VERY capable climber for a midweight-to-heavyweight 6" travel frame. Really blew my mind.

One last thing is the seat tube is quite slackenedd back, so with a longer post your virtual TT grows fast, which can be good and not so good. It's good cause it lengthens your virtual TT, better for pedalling and climbing posture, but at the same time it takes you behind the pedals unless you compensate it by moving your seat forward. I run a super short stem on my mini so i never really felt overstreched to reach the bars...

All in all I'm very impressed with this bike's ability to morph into anything you really want it to be... it's really great on urban, it's amazing on drops (progressive linkage is dialed perfectly with the avy shock), it will climb and rides XC surprisingly well, seriously it does, never feels like too much travel but also never feels like not enough travel.

Someone who test-rode my mini a few weeks back said "So that's why they say these bike don't pedal bob... cause they REALLY don't!"

I couldn't ever have been happier with any frame than my mini link #12. This frame is a hardtail (geometry, pedalling) and a DH/freeride rig (suspension, burlyness) at the same time. There's no need to have 2 bikes anymore.
I think the trick is that the mini really looks like a full on DH bike, and this gets people confused a lot.

now accepting hate mail :D

I can see how raising the Seatpost really does drastically lengthen the virtual top tube length - similar but more extreme than what happens with balfas.

Edit: I see your bike shortbus and all I keep envsioning is a Shiver Single Crown or a Z-150 or one of those new Zoke 66s on it.........ooh man now that would make it an even XC friendlier rig that could handle a ton of other stuff (urban, DH, FR) extremeley well.

Not dissing your DC fork in the least, but those are the visions that pop into my head when I see your bike.

Keep the Brooklyn bike shots coming - I'm growing to like these badarse rigs.
