The crew from the Whiteface Mountain Bike Park will make their annual trip to Bootleg Canyon this coming February to bring you the Reaper Madness DH & SD USA Cycling State Championship! Also the 1st qualifier in 2012 for the Gravity Nationals!

My question is: Do you guys want another Super D race, or just a Downhill race? Or other mt. bike races such as x-c or ds?

It's a hard choice because the options for Super D @ Bootleg are just amazing. The thing that's making it a tough choice is the turn out for SD was very low last year. Only 39 racers registered for super d. I think we had around 100 for Super D in the past?

What do you think?

I think race registration was down in general last year. According to some of the folks from the year previous, Angel Fire was at about half of the usual racers, and it seemed empty the whole weekend, to where years previous it would take 15 min to get on the lift.

As for Bootleg, I would have registered for the Super D last year, if it was in my budget. Definitely plan on it this year. IMHO, I think DS would be a complete joke on the course they have to offer.

I do both every year. Not sure if I'd go without a super d since its my thing.
Well we can't not have Krispy or Go-Ride there! That would not be right! Go-Ride made the coolest event t-shirts for us both times we put on an event @ Bootleg. It would be very difficult to find anyone else to be as generous! Black Rock Bicycles and BC Adventures also did quite a bit!

I want to do both, but my business partner says downhill only. We are getting a price on the timing now, and will make our final decision very soon. But I want dh and sd! I just wished more people raced our sd last year and the choice would be easy.

Just to let you know that once again we are not skimping on the timing and are hiring the best in the business. CJ Sports Timing.

A couple of changes from last year:
01) The downhill will finish on Reaper instead of the bathrooms.
02) Super D (if we do it) will be Boyscout to Girlscout.

I am now working on some big stuff for this event. It will be a big and pleasant surprise if I can pull it off!
Hint number 1: We really liked it when Dan and Gee Atherton showed up for the Mob n Mojave race in 2009.

I actually like the Reaper course instead of the bathroom route because it is quite a bit longer, and gets quite fast through some of those bottom rock gardens.

Rachel too?? :brows:

DAMMIT MIKE. I wasn't planning on making the trip down this year but now you've made it enticing with mention of Reaper. ****.
We need to change it up a bit. Brent Thompson really wanted a big race down Reaper. Before Brent passed he told me how great the visuals were on that course for both the racers and the spectators. Also, you can't beat the flow on Reaper.

Only 16 votes so far. If you plan on racing at Bootleg this February be sure to chime in!

This ones for you Brent!

This is the only planned race for now @ Bootleg Canyon. A Winter Series @ Bootleg will happen soon though. We would like to put on a race in January, February and in March.

Im planning on coming out to race the SD
Cool! I keep hearing how sd is on the rise but have been seeing lower numbers at races. I am sure you will love this sd course!

It's looking like we will also have a sd race at Whiteface next summer during the Wilmington/Whiteface Bike Fest. That course too will be rad!

5 races planned for 2012 WooHoo! (and 7 for 2013)

Sorry but we can't. Starting off on Armegeddon was requested to us by the Trail Master that works for the Boulder City Parks Department. I guess, Snakeback has been getting too much use for races the last 5 years. Makes sense as every race I have put on or seen there in the last 5 years has had the exact same start. It will be nice using a whole new race course.

Wouldnt waste time in Fontana, go to 2 bootleg races. Better competition, way better course.
Fontana is for those who are within a 2 hour drive. Otherwise it isn't worth it. There are tons of other races to hit that are in the area. Utah State DH series, MSC races (ie. Angel Fire), or Bootleg. As SinatorJ put it, better courses, competition, better venues, etc.

News Release:
Date: November 1, 2011

Subject: Reaper Madness DH & SD @ Bootleg Canyon

Registration is now open for the first USA Cycling Downhill qualifier for the 2012 Gravity Nationals. This State Championship Event will take place on February 18/19, 2012 at the infamous and challenging trails of Bootleg Canyon in Boulder City, Nevada.

Downhill Mike & the rest of the crew from the Whiteface Mountain Bike Park will once again be heading out west to put on the Reaper Madness Downhill & Super D races. Event organizers will be putting up a $2,000.00 pro cash purse and sponsors will have plenty of prizes. Those that place 1st thru 3rd will surely be taking home some sweet swag or cash!

Bootleg Canyon Racing/Whiteface Mountain Bike Park - Bootleg Canyon Home is the official event web site where you can easily find online registration, many very different videos from last years race (including one shot from a remote control helicopter), last years race results, this years course maps and even where to stay in Boulder City!

The event promoter has made some changes to this years pricing structure: Basically, the earlier one registers the more that is saved! Online pricing from the official event web site states: November cost is $75.00 for 1 race or $120.00 for both, and will increase by $5.00 each month until on- line registration closes on February 12. Blindly running into cactus
I have been thinking of hitting this race up this Winter plus a So Cal trip to race Fontana....

Cecil
Let me know Cecil..would love to meet up with someone who knows what sweet tea is after my culture shock here in the desert ;)

I doubt we'll be able to make the DH race due to the timing of our cross country move and I don't know what my work schedule will be like when I get to Tucson. Does that entry fee come with a free IPad or something? ;) :D

Yes. We are getting real good ones this year. That was totally my fault last year, and will never happen again at one of our events. Sorry. I am getting price quotes for this years race plates @ $1.45 each for 500. So you are right. Expensive! We will have quality plates though!

However, if you pre register you get 2 days of shuttle service, a professionally timed race run by CJ Sports Timing, a cool event t-shirt from Go-Ride.com & BC Bicycles, $2,000.00 cash for pros (we hope to have up to $8,000.00 in prizes for amateurs) and a high quality 15 mil plastic race plate for 75 bucks. You even get a Reaper finish. Heck, I might just race!

We are really looking forward to hosting the biggest dh race ever at Bootleg and we hope you all can help make that happen.

Yes and thank you! The Open Chainless DH will be only $10.00 if you are registered in any other full price race.

We even have an Open DH category this year for those that rarely, or never race USAC races. Hopefully, no solid experts or lower pros will be racing in category 2 now.

11-5-11: Reaper Madness Event Update: It's no surprise with the deal we have on pre registration this year that we are getting early registrants. Thanks! We are especially stoked that our new category "Open Downhill" is also getting registrants. We have never had to limit the field in the past, but that's because we never thought registration would go over 400. We are a long ways away from 400, but that is pretty much the limit @ Bootleg Canyon. As always, this thread and our web site will keep you informed on our events.

Is there anyone with some floor space near Bootleg that can drive me to the race? I'm flying into Vegas a few days before with my Girlfriend, then heading to Heavenly skiing. I'm meant to leave on friday but can send the girlfriend ahead. But I'll need to be sent to an airport afterwards. Also would like to be able to get my Zerode sent somewhere, and sent home after or sell the frame if anyone's keen. I know it's a big ask, but would love to give this race a shot, as I'm sure the tracks are totally different to what we have here in Oz.

NSM,
I will keep my fingers crossed for you.
However, we should have rooms blocked off at the Hacienda Hotel/Casino for $19.99 or $29.99 per night!
There are 2 local bikes shops in Boulder City that you can have your bike shipped to and back from.

Most of the information (except the hotel deals) can be found on our event web site under the FAQ tab.
Bootleg Canyon Racing/Whiteface Mountain Bike Park - Bootleg Canyon Home for more
or just ask here.

The airport is about a 35 minute drive. I checked the public bus schedule once and it looked like a pain. Usually someone else will be coming in for the race, or someone from our group may be able to help, depending when your flight is. Last year I was the gopher running back and forth to Las Vegas a couple of times a day. Got me out of the hard trail work though!

There will be a total of 20 rooms blocked off for racers at the Hacienda Hotel/Casino this year. These rooms are available beginning tonight (11-28) till they sell out or January 15th. Whichever happens 1st.
The best rate I could get is $49.95 per room. I guess, since the new bridge over Boulder Damn is complete, the $20.00 and $30.00 rooms are a thing of the past. Just tell them your here for the mountain bike race or mention Code # 2124.

More options and rates will be posted on: Bootleg Canyon Racing/Whiteface Mountain Bike Park - Bootleg Canyon Home throughout the week.

And there is always free camping at Bootleg Canyon!

We have a chance to have this Dropin Bagjump at the event.
Keep your fingers crossed.
DropIn bagjump.jpg

Currently the cost to pre-register is at the lowest price of $75.00 and includes 2 days of shuttle service. On Thursday of this week (December 1) the price goes up by $5.00 per race, then again in January and again in February.

The official event poster will updated with sponsors this week including, Morewood Bikes, iXS Sports Division, Novatec Wheels, Gnar Gnar Tours and HT Pedals so far.

man..that would be one heck of a graduation present for me but I won't know if I'll have that weekend off until the week before the race.
No worries and hope you can make it. Pre registration ends on Sunday February 12. However, we will have a large registration staff on hand to expedite on site registrants. If you have had an annual USAC license in the past, make sure your license is current and up to date. Annual and 1 day licenses will also be available at the event.
