E-stopping? That should be EXTREMELY popular with the DH board...we're already E-riding, E-wrenching, and E-engineering on a daily basis!

that sounds like an interesting idea. i would be intrigued to feel how modulation is with a brake by wire system...

i really like the idea of "wedge" braking. it's pretty elegent and uses the car's forward inertia to help stop the car. however, i hate the idea of brake by wire. the brakes are something i will always want a mechanical connection.

Reminds me of ye olde Scott self-energising cantilever brakes. But they didn't go very far....

Eight pistons is definitely the way to go. The new rule of thumb in disc braking is one piston for every inch in your rotors.

Does Grimeca still make Shimano's brakes?

Sure looks like it. THe Shimano BR-M5XX brakes look a tad too close to the Grimecas to be a coincident.

Then again an RSt also could look like a SHiver in many ways but...you know the rest.

There is a rule in the US that all cars have to have steerering and brakes connected mechanically. No fly by wire.

Airplanes, however, can be. When the 777 first came out, all the pilots were wary of fly by wire. They had to design a steering unit that had elaborate centering cams and hydraulic pistons so the plane would feel like it was hard wired.

I wouldn't want it on my bike. Hydraulic brakes are enough of a PITA.

Where do you hook up the batteries for the brakes and what happens when they run out or get disconnected?!
i hope your talking about on bikes. because if you were talking about cars that would deffinatly be classified as a dumb question. although if you are i will explain. in cars there is a batter connected to the starter, alternator, and anyother electrical devise in your car. they would take the wire from the brakes and hook them up to the batter to get the juice to it. and then the altenator would recharge the battery as you drive along. also they put wing nuts on some betteries to prevent the wires from comming off. theres the answer to the obvious.

and deffinatly would want to put them on a bike. one more thing that will get wet and not work. and brakes not working is never a good thing.

Wow, we have a winner in the combined competition for most misguided post and the post with the most spelling and grammatical errors. I've been an intense competitor in the first component, but this really blows me away.

After SIEMENS VDO acquired eSTOP some years ago and CONTINENTAL Automotive Systems acquired SIEMENS VDO from SIEMENS recently, I would like to see how the evolution of the anticipated EWB (Electronic Wedge Break, http://www.siemensvdo.com/products_solutions/cars/safety/braking-technology/ewb.htm, http://horsepowersports.com/electronic-wedge-brakes-signal-future-electric-cars/, http://usa.siemensvdo.com/press/releases/chassis-and-carbody/2006/SV_20061016_i.htm) will compete with an alternative mechatronic break system which was in the works by CONTINENTAL Automotive Systems since many years, the EMB (Electro Mechanical Brake, http://www.conti-online.com/generator/www/de/en/cas/cas/themes/products/electronic_brake_and_safety_systems/new_ways_in_braking_technologies/emb_0602_en.html). Although the launch of the EWB as the first mechatronic break system in automotive series production was anticipated not before 2010, I´m convinced that such new by-wire technologies will enter the bicycle industry in the next couple of years too, like electronic shifting systems such as NICOLAI E-Core (http://www.ridemonkey.com/forums/showthread.php?t=164697&page=6) as well as CAMPAGNOLO and SHIMANO electronic shifting systems (http://www.cyclingnews.com/tech.php?id=tech/2003/features/campy_elec, http://www.cyclingnews.com/tech.php?id=tech/2005/news/04-05, http://www.cyclingnews.com/road/2007/tour07/tech/?id=/tech/2007/features/tour_tech_407, http://www.velonews.com/pr/prn/articles/7814.0.html, http://www.pezcyclingnews.com/?pg=fullstory&id=4772, http://bicycletech.blogspot.com/2006/04/electronics-next-bicycle-frontier.html, http://weightweenies.starbike.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13863).
