Calling All Mechanics

Ok, I have a serious question on this apparently infamous subject. Now before

the flaming and link posting begins let me prove that I’ve done my research…

Now that you have my research, brace your self for my excuses…

A) These threads did actually help a lot between there visual aids and different

testimonies from actual participants in this type of scenario I actually got

about 95% of it figured out.
2) I did my due diligence physically about 8 hours of it literally. Then

resorted to research then tried again. Now this...

And

C) In all this research I get mixed signals as any one would expect on a forum

(probably why they can be so effective). When I say mixed signals I mean some

claim successes some claim impossible send it in and some say throw it away use
(X product).

And now.... my question.

*pause for dramatic effect*

”If anyone HAS actually succeeded in reassembling there 07’ SRAM X-9 Shifters

after making the mistake of taking them apart. Can they give me a step by step

explanation and any other visual aids that could be useful?”

In advanced thanks for the help

Take it to a shop.

I've taken them apart successfully because I didn't lose any of the pieces or space out when I disassembled them.

I have no schematic or have the patience to explain exactly how to do it without a schematic.

I have rebuilt the x7 and it sounds like from your research, its the same almost. All i did was indexed the coiled spring with the tongue facing the bottom side, there is a groove for it. then i wound it and lached it to the piece that holds it, put the cap on carefully and quickly and make sure the idicator is lined up. It took me bout 20 minutes to finally get.

It can be done! A few of my friends and I successfully assembled an 07 x9.

Seeing as this is going to be an ongoing problem for the next few years, I'm gonna open up my 08's to do a step by step to show assembly and disassembly. I'll do it tonight and post it up tuesday or wednesday.

sanjuro- I will take it to a shop if I can't figure it out on my own. But I do a lot of the work on mine and my friends bikes, so if could figure it out I would be way better off in the long run. Valid point though.

ultraNoob- words could not portray how awesome you would be to me if you did that... Really looking forward to it. Plus ill relay to my other forums I'm looking through to help people in the future.

I documented a complete disassembly and reassembly of a 2008 SRAM X9 rear shifter last night. Unfortunately, the macro function of the camera I was using sucks! (friggin cheap a$$ kodak). I'll do it again and use my olympus tonight.

It took roughly 1 hour to disassemble, reassemble, and photograph each step. If all goes well tonight, I'll post it up wednesday evening.
