Hoping to find a suggestion for the above vacation planned for the end of April. The family rides Diablo (Mountain Creek in Vernon NJ) a lot and we are open to XC trails that is near a campground that we can park the 34' motorhome. Shopping is the area would be great for the wife. Any thoughts would be welcome.

A fantastic place to camp and ride is Douthat State Park in VA. Not much in the way of shopping however.

If shopping is a must Pocahontas State Park near Richmond or York River State park near Williamsburg are near some really good trails and outlet mall shopping. (Williamsburg Pottery, etc.)

Yeah, the XC is awesome, and is near a lot of other reachable trails. That for both locations.

Williamsburg has something for the whole family. There are 5 mtb trail systems within the Williamsburg area. Other attractions include outlet malls, Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown, Jamestown, and Busch Gardens amusement park. For something a little out of the ordinary, you can ride your bikes on the Colonial Parkway to Jamestown and take a ferry over to Scotland (Surry). The ferry is free and it's a great family outing.

BTW, good info from Dart on Douthat. If you're only interested in camping and biking, it's the place to go. The trails and scenery are awesome.

that sounds like a lot of fun! I live in stephens city VA and there arent too many places to ride believe it or not. there are so many mountains near us but most of the mountains are established with homes or are hiking trails. bummer.

It's okay to ride on hiking trails as long as you have the following sticker on your bike...

2. Freedom Park, Corner of Centerville Rd & Longhill Road, Williamsburg
3. New Quarter Park, 1000 Lakeshead Drive, Williamsburg
4. Wahrani Nature Trail, Route 33 near Route 30, New Kent
5. Upper County Park, 180 Leisure Road, Toano (Williamsburg)
6. Harwoods Mill Park, Oriana Road, Newport News
7. Gatewood, Gatewood Rd & Warwick Blvd, Newport News

All of these trails are a half hour or less away from the KOA. Check mtbr.com for reviews - Freedom Park is still listed as District Park on mtbr.com.

If you are doing the williamsbrg thing at the end of April there is also a Mt bike festival at the end of April (26 and 27)in Richmond about 45min to an 1hour away if you would like to partake
