Carbon monkey lites and bar shims?

I have a nice pair of 200gram carbon monkey bars, but a 888 integrated stem and not enough steerer to run a normal stem. Will I get away with running spacers? I have a set of dabomb ones here- they fit fine but I'm concerned by how little they actually wrap around the bar, is the 888 spacer any better? Is there a decent weight 888 25.4 integrated stem out there?

Cheers

What??
Call, or have your LBS call Marzocchi. They sell the shims for 25.4 handlebar.

Didn't you guys read what he said? ...not enough steerer to run a normal stem...

thats one more agument for why you dont cut your steer tube, and if you do it should be very minimal.

What??
I know, but why not just getting the shims? He already has the stem. But IF he is a Funn fan, then, go for it I guess.

Or he can go for Sunline direct stem mount. I think it is slightly lower than Funn.

AlexYuen you might want to look at that stem again as it is a direct mount type.

any shim you use, should have no impact on the bar at all, infact if you offset the split in the clamp, from the split in the stem, you should have less of an issue with pinching/crushing the carbon than with a stem with no shim.

Just make sure there are NO burrs or sharp edges on the inner surface of the shims (emmory cloth) and use a torque wrench on the stem bolts.

yeh and alex the only way that you would have a steer that was too short to accept a normal stem is if you cut it, and yet again that is exactly why you dont cut big pieces of steer tube.

Fork is from a complete bike, I didn't cut the steerer. The bar is actually a 225 gram monkey lite DH. The funn stem makes for fark all weight savings... As do the shims

888 stem= 198
holz bar= 305
=503

funn stem= 251
monkey bar= 225
=476

888 stem= 198
monkey= 225
da bomb shims= 40
=463

If theres no light 25.4 stems out there (huge hole in the market!), any carbon bars up to the same quality as the easton in 31.8? Is the nanotube stuff worth all the hype?

I just found a longer steerer and crown, sweet. Now what stem? Thomson elite, syntace superforce? I went to put on my old thomson but its cracked on the faceplate. Its been painted a couple of times and its pretty old now. though. Any other ideas for stems?

Tried the bars today. Very nice.

I'd like another thomson stem, does anyone know where they hide their warranty info on the site? Crash replacement or something? hehe

If not, is there any other light stems? I'd prefer a more boxy look than the stems I've mentioned.

At 156g the thomson elite (50x0) is a good bet. I'm running it and couldn't be happier. The X4 isn't that light however.. 173g (off the top of my head) so if you're stuck with oversize look elsewhere.

The syntace might be fun to try if you've got the hookup (what are they worth here?), another option that's great for a few less bucks is the easton havoc. Just as light as the thomson elite and can be flipped to get the bars lower, just doesn't look nearly as cool.

and yet again that is exactly why you dont cut big pieces of steer tube.
Shutup already, no one cares. I cut my steerer tube as short as possible because I don't care to carry around extra grams in wasted steerer and spacers, especially if i'm wasting hundreds of dollars to save grams elsewhere.

I'll have to talk to zipp to see if they even bring the stem in.

I was pretty close!

The 50mm X4 is heavier than the Elite though (as per thomson site):
X4: 1-1/8 x 0° x 50 x 31.8 173 grams
Elite: 1-1/8 x 0° x 50 x 25.4 156 grams

Depends what length jonny's chasing I suppose
