is it really worth it?

Old franchises being re-done or re-invented have been weak lately... except for Batman Begins.

If you like Bond movies with lame ass gimmicks, don't see it.

Better than all the ones that didn't have Sean Connery in them.

The lame ass gimmicks are why I hate Bond movies. The previews at least look like they got away from that.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Casino Royale. In fact, my wife really wants to see it too which is saying something...

so you're saying this movie has some substance? Some character development, no deus ex machina, villians with depth?

Frankly, I didn't even bother watching the previews...

Out of my mind, back in a moment.
Brosnan fit the mind's eye picture of "Bond". Connery was still the best. Brosnan had the acting ability, but was hurt by weak scripts.

Steve, how did Craig pull this off? Was he as good as everyone's saying he was? From what I've read they were trying to re-write the character as a darker, more sinister character. How'd they do?

IMO he nailed it.

IMO yes.

I just got back from it and thought it was amazing. It's not quite the typical deus ex machina Bond movie we're all used to and shows him as more of a badass without all the fancy gizmos and gadgets. Definitely one of my favorite Bond films.

This has got to be the best Bond movie ever. Just saw it now.

No big conspiracy to world domination, nothing big. Its "raw". Loved it.

You noticed there were NO special effects in Casino royale.. They set a worlds record crashing the Astin Martin also in the movie..

Moonraker rocks. Casino Royale is also the best movie i have seen in a long time..! "M" was great & Bond (Daniel Craig) killed it !

What I've said about film making all along, throw some good actors at a good scrip and it will kick ass, computer graphics are all well and good, but nothing beats a scene where all the special effects are done live and captured on film. The opening was shot on good old fashioned 16mm high ISO film to get that grainy look, you can do similar things in Aftereffects for a lot more money, but it won't look half as good. Stricly technicaly speaking there were tons of special effects (blood, gun shots, contact lenses ect) but almost zero computer effects. When you have a great script and Judy Dench and Daniel Craig you simply don't need extravagent distractions, Keanue Reeves needs all the computer animation he can get to hide his acting, hence the Matrix was a decent flick.

Eva Green was smokin' hot, and there were lots of Land Rovers too wich definitly didn't hurt anything.

Just saw this last night and do have to say I was impressed. I liked the play up of the dark side of the character for sure.

I agree with Max the lack of a Q was disappointing, it's one of the things that makes a Bond movie IMO.

A couple of things bugged me (like what happened to Felix when he couldn't pick up his guy? Did he just say F it and go home?)

All in all though, I like this direction. And I think Craig pulled it off quite well.

In a van.... down by the river
Just saw the film last night. I give it two thumbs up. Definitely a complete departure from the standard 007 script. I hope if they make more they're like this.

The Aston Martin chase was a bit of a disappointment - I'd have loved to see that car driving around for a few more minutes before they trashed it. :thumb:

Wasn't John Cleese the sidekick/replacement for Q a couple movies back? I vaguely remember him and Desmond L. kickin' around with the gadgetz....

true but i do believe brosnan is a close second
I'll need to see this flix, but speaking of Brosnan.

He did another movie ... kind of a comedy of the "hitman" life.
It's called The Matador. with Greg Kinnar (sp?) Good acting ... worth the watch...I think. It was free on-demand with cable.

Are you kidding? One of the worst movies I've seen so far this year.

And the "to the right" line was just after the "you have such a nice body mr. bond. do you work out? its a shame i am going to hit you in the nuts with this steel ball."

Only good for MST3K fodder.

Let me guess...you're THE guy that's seen Crispin Glover's master work and thought it had to be one of the most beautifully crafted pieces of film in all cinema...
