Here are a few images of our local trail riding spot thats just a few miles out of town, from my door its about 9 miles of paved city "trail" to the actual trail head. When the weather is good and the sun sets later than 7:30 I'll usually pedal out on on my hard tail EX bike, in the winter or if time is an issue I'll drive to the tail head and ride my full squishy.
The trail starts at one of the dams, as you can see the falls aren't as great as they once were.

A half mile down stream is one of 3 power plants you'd pass if you did the full 19 mile loop. The pictures I took today are from a loop that runs 5 to 7 miles depending on what trials you choose.

The route has 3 to 4 levels of trail, the highest level is double track, the others are single track - the closer you get to the river the more fun the trails become. I do a figure 8 so that I don't hit the same trail twice. Mayhem is about 2.5 miles out and is less aggressive than Chaos which is only 1.5 miles out. Both trails connect about a mile further downstream.

For perspective I was lucky enough to spot a rider, I am looking down one trail up from the lowest trail.

These shots are typical of the kind of trails on the South Shore, The North Shore also has trails but they are less interesting as they run along the edge the rolling prairie without coming close to the river.
