sorry for the late notice, there will more than likely be another very soon. But i thought i would post this to see if we could get some more help building our trail.

We will meet at Clemson University at Noon in the sikes hall parking lot and then carpool/ convoy our way to the trails.

The goal for this weekend is to get the wallride up and connect the trail to the drop area. This should provide us with enough judgement to decide on and release a race date.

Come check out our trail and help us grow.

Please PM me for more details or email ride@clemson.edu

Thanks in advance

I was just wondering where we should go if we are going directly to the trails. I'm coming from Greenville so going on campus seems a little out of the way.

I'd like to first say that what has been done to out at Issaqueena by our freeride club is awsome. Our old downhill and slalom courses have come full circle. If anyone in the area who is into freeride hasn't ridden the new stuff yet they really neead to. I am not trying to step n any toes with my next comment but I have some concerns about the course being raced, and not from a legality or liability standpoint. It seems to me, and I may be wrong, but there is very little on our downhill course to test a riders technical skills. The course is more or less straight and if there is a corner then it has a berm built into it. I would just as soon ride the course on a 20" with the exception of the new drop, which is definantly burly and worthy of a big-boy bike. Again I want to say that I think what is being done out there is great and being done very well. Everything is fun and well built, I am just not sure it is ready to be a downhill race course. If I were coming to race this course I would want to see more mountain biking on the course than stunts and well groomed jumps. I did not write this to piss anyone off. I just wanted to throw some thoughts out there so that they might be taken into cncideration and Clemson could host a great DH race.

This course has been designed with several types of riding involved the lower section we are working on now is your technical section you think the course is lacking, this will be a series of unassisted heir pin (sp) turns, rocks and other attention demanding obstacles. Believe me when I say i will not put something on this course that is not raceable. We will have an entire freeride section this summer for all of the stunts. Some places along our course are extra smooth because they were groomed by people who ride 20s such as yourself.

It is my personal opinion that even in its groomed state the course is still very techy and the minute you dont respect it, you and your bike become seperated.

At every meeting thus far I have asked for peoples insight and we have built upon that. Im glad to hear your concerns and want you to know that they are being addressed. Wait until march when the course is complete and post again. A race course is allowed to have a little style.

Come out on the workday then and give us suggestions. We are trying to do our best with the given terrain. Surely if there was more elevation it could be a more worthy of a "big boy bike." Let us not forget this is Clemson South Carolina; not Colorado, Canada or even Asheville for that matter.

We are trying to provide something that this area is lacking

I must say the course is as technical as I rider wants to make it, as all course are the same. Not the same as in from top to bottom sense, but the same as in a rider or racer can make any course hard to how fast he goes down it. Sea Otter is not as technical as most DH course and is well groomed too. But a lot of DHers say its fun because of the flow factor. As long as a course has flow its fun. When we first built the old DH and DS course out there it was not technical at all. We had less jumps and berms as it has now. From the pics it looks much better and word from one of the guys that has been out there lately that helped us build the old course says its much better. Don’t knock on the work that has been done if you’re not helping. I plan on going out there soon to ride it and give the boys some good feed back. I have designed many of the top DH race course in the past here is the South East with my old teams help.

We are trying to provide something this area is lacking with out forcing a fit. If our trail cant handle it then it is not on our hill, period. I have a big bike an thoroughly enjoy everything thus far.

From 85 take exit 19B should be well marked for Clemson University. That will put you on 76.
From here make a left on 93 Old greenville hwy.
If you are meeting us at noon Sikes hall will be on the left at the 2nd stop light. Just go around back and we will be in the parking lot somewhere.

For those of you that are not meeting us and for future reference check out my MS PAINT work below.

76

From 93 follow it all the way to the end, cross over the lake and such, pass the stadium.
Make a left on to 123 at the end of the road.
Make a Right on Old Clemson highway.
(You will see a Palms Gas station and a Bloom grocery store on the left. The green and blue dot respectively).

make a right on Lawrence Bridge Rd
(there will be a builders supply on the left and this turn is a hairpin turn ) This spot is marked by the orange blob on the picture.

From here things get squirelly
continue down this road until you get to West dam road. There will be a stone sign at this turn signifying issaqueena park. there will also be a gate. For those of you who are meeting us at noon, gettting you will be able to just follow me into the gate. The rest of you will need to call. Due to the logging and hunting in the area I am not allowed to leave that gate open or at least not as of yet.

There is cell phone coverage so just give me a call and I will drive up to the gate and escort anyone who shows up. SO please PM me for my cell if you think youll be arriving late.

Hope this helps
Jon

At least no one took what I said out of context and got all worked up... I never said that anyone wasn't out there working hard or doing the best they could with the terrain we had. I was simply echoing things I've heard other people say and throwing in my thoughts. I understand that this isn't Colorado, but with as many people as you have interested in building and as much enthusiasm as you have you are poised to put on a phenominal race. I think it is great you are doing for the area and for the sport. Mountain biking needs more venues like this in the South East. I'll keep my mouth shut from now on. It seems like everyone has it under control. I wish you the best of luck in putting on your race and I hope is it a huge success. I'm sorry if I've upset anyone but if you read what I said and don't focus on the little bit of criticism you should pat yourselves on the back.

This is Tyler, forgot to throw that in my last post. I have my own meetings at 7. I am working this weekend so I can't make your workday. I will try to make one sooner than latre and I'll bring some mroe people to do work. I would hope that you don't think I am against anything your club is doing, I've tried to show my support thus far. I would still love to help you put on a great college race and get you guys to the other college races so you can show the confrence what we've got. There is no doubt in my mind we will have the best race course. I will be helping and I hope there is no bad blood.
